a105cd6066 Use field init shorthand where possible
Field init shorthand allows writing initializers like `tcx: tcx` as
`tcx`. The compiler already uses it extensively. Fix the last few places
where it isn't yet used.

121e87bf14 Remove rustc::existing_doc_keyword lint.
`CheckAttrVisitor::check_doc_keyword` checks `#[doc(keyword = "..")]`
attributes to ensure they are on an empty module, and that the value is
a non-empty identifier.

The `rustc::existing_doc_keyword` lint checks these attributes to ensure
that the value is the name of a keyword.

It's silly to have two different checking mechanisms for these
attributes. This commit does the following.
- Changes `check_doc_keyword` to check that the value is the name of a
  keyword (avoiding the need for the identifier check, which removes a
  dependency on `rustc_lexer`).
- Removes the lint.
- Updates tests accordingly.

There is one hack: the `SelfTy` FIXME case used to used to be handled by
disabling the lint, but now is handled with a special case in
`is_doc_keyword`. That hack will go away if/when the FIXME is fixed.

Add value accessor methods to `Mutex` and `RwLock`

This PR adds `get`, `set` and `replace` methods to the `Mutex` and `RwLock` types for quick access to their contained values.

One possible optimization would be to check for poisoning first and return an error immediately, without attempting to acquire the lock. I didn’t implement this because I consider poisoning to be relatively rare, adding this extra check could slow down common use cases.

`UniqueRc` trait impls

UniqueRc tracking Issue: #112566

Stable traits: (i.e. impls behind only the `unique_rc_arc` feature gate)

* Support the same formatting as `Rc`:
  * `fmt::Debug` and `fmt::Display` delegate to the pointee.
  * `fmt::Pointer` prints the address of the pointee.
* Add explicit `!Send` and `!Sync` impls, to mirror `Rc`.
* Borrowing traits: `Borrow`, `BorrowMut`, `AsRef`, `AsMut`
  * `Rc` does not implement `BorrowMut` and `AsMut`, but `UniqueRc` can.
* Unconditional `Unpin`, like other heap-allocated types.
* Comparison traits `(Partial)Ord` and `(Partial)Eq` delegate to the pointees.
  * `PartialEq for UniqueRc` does not do `Rc`'s specialization shortcut for pointer equality when `T: Eq`, since by definition two `UniqueRc`s cannot share an allocation.
* `Hash` delegates to the pointee.
* `AsRawFd`, `AsFd`, `AsHandle`, `AsSocket` delegate to the pointee like `Rc`.
  * Sidenote: The bounds on `T` for the existing `Pointer<T>` impls for specifically `AsRawFd` and `AsSocket` do not allow `T: ?Sized`. For the added `UniqueRc` impls I allowed `T: ?Sized` for all four traits, but I did not change the existing (stable) impls.

Unstable traits:
* `DispatchFromDyn`, allows using `UniqueRc<Self>` as a method receiver under `feature(arbitrary_self_types)`.
* Existing `PinCoerceUnsized for UniqueRc` is generalized to allow non-`Global` allocators, like `Rc`.
* `DerefPure`, allows using `UniqueRc` in deref-patterns under `feature(deref_patterns)`, like `Rc`.

For documentation, `Rc` only has documentation on the comparison traits' methods, so I copied/adapted the documentation for those, and left the rest without impl-specific docs.

The target wasm32-wasip1-threads has support for pthreads and allows registration of TLS destructors.

For spawned threads, this registers Rust TLS destructors by creating a pthreads key with an attached destructor function.
For the main thread, this registers an `atexit` handler to run the TLS destructors.

wasi/fs: Improve stopping condition for <ReadDir as Iterator>::next

When upgrading [Zed](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/19349) to Rust 1.82 I've encountered a test failure in our test suite. Specifically, one of our extension tests started hanging. I've tracked it down to a call to std::fs::remove_dir_all not returning when an extension is compiled with Rust 1.82 Our extension system uses WASM components, thus I've looked at the diff between 1.81 and 1.82 with respect to WASI and found 736f773844

As it turned out, calling remove_dir_all from extension returned io::ErrorKind::NotFound in 1.81; the underlying issue is that the ReadDir iterator never actually terminates iteration, however since it loops around, with 1.81 we'd come across an entry second time and fail to remove it, since it would've been removed previously. With 1.82 and 736f773844 it is no longer the case, thus we're seeing the hang. The tests do pass when everything but the extensions is compiled with 1.82.

This commit makes ReadDir::next adhere to readdir contract, namely it will no longer call readdir once the returned # of bytes is smaller than the size of a passed-in buffer. Previously we'd only terminate the loop if readdir returned 0.

Relevant changes from the public API in the tracking issue (I'm leaving out some stuff I consider obvious mistakes, like missing `#[derive(..)]`s and `pub` specifiers):

- `enum DebugAsHex`/`FormattingOptions::debug_as_hex`/`FormattingOptions::get_debug_as_hex`: To support `{:x?}` as well as `{:X?}`. I had completely missed these options in the ACP. I'm open for any and all bikeshedding, not married to the name.
- `fill`/`get_fill` now takes/returns `char` instead of `Option<char>`. This simply mirrors what `Formatter::fill` returns (with default being `' '`).
- Changed `zero_pad`/`get_zero_pad` to `sign_aware_zero_pad`/`get_sign_aware_zero_pad`. This also mirrors `Formatter::sign_aware_zero_pad`. While I'm not a fan of this quite verbose name, I do believe that having the interface of `Formatter` and `FormattingOptions` be compatible is more important.
- For the same reason, renamed `alignment`/`get_alignment` to `aling`/`get_align`.
- Deviating from my initial idea, `Formatter::with_options` returns a `Formatter` which has the lifetime of the `self` reference as its generic lifetime parameter (in the original API spec, the generic lifetime of the returned `Formatter` was the generic lifetime used by `self` instead). Otherwise, one could construct two `Formatter`s that both mutably borrow the same underlying buffer, which would be unsound. This solution still has performance benefits over simply using `Formatter::new`, so I believe it is worthwhile to keep this method.

TLDR: This had been FCP'd in December 2022 with some other `ErrorKind`s, but the stabilization got postponed due to some concerns voiced about several of the variants. However, the only concern ever voiced for this variant in particular was a wish to rename this to `NotSameDevice` analogous to Windows's `ERROR_NOT_SAME_DEVICE` (as opposed to Unix's `EXDEV`). This suggestion did not receive any support. So let's try to FCP this as is.

Fix and undeprecate home_dir()

`home_dir()` has been deprecated for 6 years due to using `HOME` env var on Windows.

It's been a long time, and having a perpetually buggy and deprecated function in the standard library is not useful. I propose fixing and undeprecating it.

6 years seems more than long enough to warn users against relying on this function. The change in behavior is minor, and it's more of a bug fix than breakage. The old behavior is unlikely to be useful, and even if anybody actually needed to specifically use the non-standard `HOME` on Windows, they can trivially mitigate this change by reading the env var themselves.

Use of `USERPROFILE` is in line with the `home` crate: 37bc5f0232/crates/home/src/windows.rs (L12)

The `home` crate uses `SHGetKnownFolderPath` instead of `GetUserProfileDirectoryW`. AFAIK it doesn't make any difference in practice, because `SHGetKnownFolderPath` merely adds support for more kinds of folders, including virtual (non-filesystem) folders identified by a GUID, but the specific case of [`FOLDERID_Profile`](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/shell/knownfolderid#FOLDERID_Profile) is documented as a FIXED folder (a regular filesystem path). Just in case, I've added a note to documentation that the use of `GetUserProfileDirectoryW` can change.

I've used `CURRENT_RUSTC_VERSION` in a doccomment. `replace-version-placeholder` tool seems to perform a simple string replacement, so hopefully it'll get updated.

Enable -Zshare-generics for inline(never) functions

This avoids inlining cross-crate generic items when possible that are
already marked inline(never), implying that the author is not intending
for the function to be inlined by callers. As such, having a local copy
may make it easier for LLVM to optimize but mostly just adds to binary
bloat and codegen time. In practice our benchmarks indicate this is
indeed a win for larger compilations, where the extra cost in dynamic
linking to these symbols is diminished compared to the advantages in
fewer copies that need optimizing in each binary.

It might also make sense it expand this with other heuristics (e.g.,
`#[cold]`) in the future, but this seems like a good starting point.

FWIW, I expect that doing cleanup in where we make the decision
what should/shouldn't be shared is also a good idea. Way too
much code needed to be tweaked to check this. But I'm hoping
to leave that for a follow-up PR rather than blocking this on it.

On AIX, we don't have 32bit floating point for re-entrant `lgammaf_r` but we do have the 64bit floating point re-entrant `lgamma_r` so we can use the 64bit version instead and truncate back to a 32bit float.

This solves the linker missing symbol for `.lgammaf_r` when testing and using these parts of the `std`.

This is explicitly mentioned for std::fs::remove_file.

It is more likely for a slightly lazy programmer to believe that removing a file would work and that they do not have to distinguish between directories (with contents) and files themself, because of the function's recursive nature and how it distinguishes between files and directories when removing them.

std: allow after-main use of synchronization primitives

By creating an unnamed thread handle when the actual one has already been destroyed, synchronization primitives using thread parking can be used even outside the Rust runtime.

This also fixes an inefficiency in the queue-based `RwLock`: if `thread::current` was not initialized yet, it will create a new handle on every parking attempt without initializing `thread::current`. The private `current_or_unnamed` function introduced here fixes this.

Add `AsyncFn*` to the prelude in all editions

The general vibe is that we will most likely stabilize the `feature(async_closure)` *without* the `async Fn()` trait bound modifier.

Without `async Fn()` bound syntax, this necessitates users to spell the bound like `AsyncFn()`. Since `core::ops::AsyncFn` is not in the prelude, users will need to import these any time they actually want to use the trait. This seems annoying, so let's add these traits to the prelude unstably.

We're trying to work on the general vision of `async` trait bound modifier in general in: https://github.com/rust-lang/rfcs/pull/3710, however that RFC still needs more time for consensus to converge, and we've decided that the value that users get from calling the bound `async Fn()` is *not really* worth blocking landing async closures in general.

This is explicitly mentioned for std::fs::remove_file's documentation,
but not in the aforementioned function.

It is more likely for a slightly lazy programmer to believe that
removing a file would work and that they do not have to distinguish
between directories (with contents) and files themself, because of the
function's recursive nature and how it distinguishes between files and
directories when removing them.

Emscripten: link with -sWASM_BIGINT

When linking an executable without dynamic linking, this is a pure improvement. It significantly reduces code size and avoids a lot of buggy behaviors. It is supported in all browsers for many years and in all maintained versions of Node.

It does change the ABI, so people who are dynamically linking with a library or executable that uses the old ABI may need to turn it off. It can be disabled if needed by passing `-Clink-arg -sWASM_BIGINT=0` to `rustc`. But few people will want to turn it off.

Note this includes a libc bump to 0.2.162!

529aae6fc3 wasi/fs: Improve stopping condition for <ReadDir as Iterator>::next
When upgrading [Zed](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/19349) to Rust 1.82 I've encountered a test failure in our test suite. Specifically, one of our extension tests started hanging. I've tracked it down to a call to std::fs::remove_dir_all not returning when an extension is compiled with Rust 1.82
Our extension system uses WASM components, thus I've looked at the diff between 1.81 and 1.82 with respect to WASI and found 736f773844

As it turned out, calling remove_dir_all from extension returned io::ErrorKind::NotFound in 1.81;
the underlying issue is that the ReadDir iterator never actually terminates iteration, however since it loops around, with 1.81 we'd come across an entry second time and fail to remove it, since it would've been removed previously.
With 1.82 and 736f773844 it is no longer the case, thus we're seeing the hang.

This commit makes ReadDir::next adhere to readdir contract, namely it will no longer call readdir once the returned # of bytes is smaller than the size of a passed-in buffer.
Previously we'd only terminate the loop if readdir returned 0.

std: allow after-main use of synchronization primitives
By creating an unnamed thread handle when the actual one has already been destroyed, synchronization primitives using thread parking can be used even outside the Rust runtime.

This also fixes an inefficiency in the queue-based `RwLock`: if `thread::current` was not initialized yet, it will create a new handle on every parking attempt without initializing `thread::current`. The private `current_or_unnamed` function introduced here fixes this.

84fd95cbed fix memory ordering bug + bad test
This commit fixes a memory ordering bug in the futex implementation
(`Relaxed` -> `Release` on `downgrade`).

This commit also removes a badly written test that deadlocked and
replaces it with a more reasonable test based on an already-tested
`downgrade` test from the parking-lot crate.

31e35c2131 modify queue implementation documentation
This commit only has documentation changes and a few things moved around
the file. The very few code changes are cosmetic: changes like turning a
`match` statement into an `if let` statement or reducing indentation for
long if statements.

This commit also adds several safety comments on top of `unsafe` blocks
that might not be immediately obvious to a first-time reader.

Code "changes" are in:
- `add_backlinks_and_find_tail`
- `lock_contended`

A majority of the changes are just expanding the comments from 80
columns to 100 columns.

PR 130999 added the file_lock feature, but libc does not define flock() for the Solaris platform leading to a compilation error.

Additionally, I went through all the Tier 2 platforms and read through their documentation to see whether flock was implemented. This turned up 5 more Unix platforms where flock is not supported, even though it may exist in the libc crate.

Make `CloneToUninit` dyn-compatible

Make `CloneToUninit` dyn-compatible, by making `clone_to_uninit`'s `dst` parameter `*mut u8` instead of `*mut Self`, so the method does not reference `Self` except in the `self` parameter and is thus dispatchable from a trait object.

This allows, among other things, adding `CloneToUninit` as a supertrait bound for `trait Foo` to allow cloning `dyn Foo` in some containers. Currently, this means that `Rc::make_mut` and `Arc::make_mut` can work with `dyn Foo` where `trait Foo: CloneToUninit`.

Eventually, `Box::<T>::clone` is planned to be converted to use `T::clone_to_uninit`, which when combined with this change, will allow cloning `Box<dyn Foo>` where `trait Foo: CloneToUninit` without any additional `unsafe` code for the author of `trait Foo`.[^1]

This PR should have no stable side-effects, as `CloneToUninit` is unstable so cannot be mentioned on stable, and `CloneToUninit` is not used as a supertrait anywhere in the stdlib.

This change removes some length checks that could only fail if library UB was already hit (e.g. calling `<[T]>::clone_to_uninit` with a too-small-length `dst` is library UB and was previously detected[^2]; since `dst` does not have a length anymore, this now cannot be detected[^3]).

I chose to make the parameter `*mut u8` instead of `*mut ()` because that might make it simpler to pass the result of `alloc` to `clone_to_uninit`, but `*mut ()` would also make sense, and any `*mut ConcreteType` would *work*. The original motivation for [using specifically `*mut ()`](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/116113#discussion_r1335303908) appears to be `std::ptr::from_raw_parts_mut`, but that now [takes `*mut impl Thin`](https://doc.rust-lang.org/nightly/std/ptr/fn.from_raw_parts.html) instead of `*mut ()`. I have another branch where the parameter is `*mut ()`, if that is preferred.

It *could* also take something like `&mut [MaybeUninit<u8>]` to be dyn-compatible but still allow size-checking and in some cases safe writing, but this is already an `unsafe` API where misuse is UB, so I'm not sure how many guardrails it's worth adding here, and `&mut [MaybeUninit<u8>]` might be overly cumbersome to construct for callers compared to `*mut u8`

These operations are explicitly specified to act "bitwise", i.e. they just act on the sign bit and do not even quiet signaling NaNs. We also list them as ["non-arithmetic operations"](https://doc.rust-lang.org/nightly/std/primitive.f32.html#nan-bit-patterns), and all the other non-arithmetic operations are in libcore. There's no reason to expect them to require any sort of runtime support, and from [these experiments](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/50145#issuecomment-997301250) it seems like LLVM indeed compiles them in a way that does not require any sort of runtime support.

Nominating for `@rust-lang/libs-api` since this change takes immediate effect on stable.

Rollup merge of #132738 - cuviper:channel-heap-init, r=ibraheemdev
Initialize channel `Block`s directly on the heap

The channel's `Block::new` was causing a stack overflow because it held
32 item slots, instantiated on the stack before moving to `Box::new`.
The 32x multiplier made modestly-large item sizes untenable.

That block is now initialized directly on the heap.

Fixes #102246

This does the minimum to remove the `HEAP` static that was causing chromium issues. It would be worth having a more substantial look at this module but for now I think this addresses the immediate issue.

Update compiler_builtins to 0.1.138 and pin it. This updates to a new version of builtins that includes [1], which was
the last blocker to us enabling `f128` tests on all platforms.

With that, we now provide symbols necessary to work with `f128` everywhere. This means that we are no longer restricted to systems that provide `f128` symbols themselves, and can enable tests by default.

There are still a handful of platforms that need to remain disabled because of bugs and some that had to get updated.

Math support is still off by default since those symbols are not yet available.

c0fc25cc20 Enable f128 tests on all non-buggy platforms 🎉
With the `compiler-builtins` update to 0.1.137 [1], we now provide
symbols necessary to work with `f128` everywhere. This means that we are
no longer restricted to 64-bit linux, and can enable tests by default.

There are still a handful of platforms that need to remain disabled
because of bugs. This patch additionally disables the following:

1. MIPS [2]
2. 32-bit x86 [3]

Math support is still off by default since those symbols are not yet
available.

95ecf0c262 Update compiler_builtins to 0.1.138 and pin it
This updates to a new version of builtins that includes [1], which was
the last blocker to us enabling `f128` tests on all platforms 🎉.

With this update, also change to pinning the version with `=` rather
than using the default carat versioning. This is meant to ensure that
`compiler-builtins` does not get updated as part of the weekly
`Cargo.lock` update, since updates to this crate need to be intentional:
changes to rust-lang/rust and rust-lang/compiler-builtins sometimes need
to be kept in lockstep, unlike most dependencies, and sometimes these
updates can be problematic.

Make `std::os::darwin` public

I'm not sure of the reasoning behind them not being public before, but I think they should be, just like `std::os::ios` and `std::os::macos` are public.

Additionally, I've merged their source code, as it was otherwise just a bunch of unnecessary duplication.

Ultimately, I've done this PR to fix `./x build library --target=aarch64-apple-tvos,aarch64-apple-watchos,aarch64-apple-visionos`, as that currently fails because of dead code warnings.

better test for const HashMap; remove const_hash leftovers

The existing `const_with_hasher` test is kind of silly since the HashMap it constructs can never contain any elements. So this adjusts the test to construct a usable HashMap, which is a bit non-trivial since the default hash builder cannot be built in `const`. `BuildHasherDefault::new()` helps but is unstable (https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/123197), so we also have a test that does not involve that type.

The second commit removes the last remnants of https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/104061, since they aren't actually useful -- without const traits, you can't do any hashing in `const`.

Since `#[link_section]` is enclosed in braces, it was being confused with a link during docs compilation.

This caused compilation to fail when running `x dist` since it emitted a warning regarding broken links.

xous: sync: remove `rustc_const_stable` attribute on Condvar and Mutex new()

These functions had `#[rustc_const_stable(feature = "const_locks", since = "1.63.0")]` on them because they were originally taken from `no_threads`. with d066dfd these no longer compile. Since other platforms do not have this attribute, remove it. This fixes the build for Xous.
