Don't drain-on-drop in DrainFilter impls of various collections.

This removes drain-on-drop behavior from various unstable DrainFilter impls (not yet for HashSet/Map) because that behavior [is problematic](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/43244#issuecomment-641638196) (because it can lead to panic-in-drop when user closures panic) and may become forbidden if [this draft RFC passes](https://github.com/rust-lang/rfcs/pull/3288).

Update runtime guarantee for `select_nth_unstable`

#106933 changed the runtime guarantee for `select_nth_unstable` from O(n) to O(n log n), since the old guarantee wasn't actually met by the implementation at the time. Now with #107522, `select_nth_unstable` should be truly linear in runtime, so we can revert its runtime guarantee to O(n). Since #106933 was considered a bug fix, this will probably need an FCP because it counts as a new API guarantee.

Rollup merge of #98202 - aticu:impl_tryfrom_osstr_for_str, r=Amanieu
Implement `TryFrom<&OsStr>` for `&str`

Recently when trying to work with `&OsStr` I was surprised to find this `impl` missing.

Since the `to_str` method already existed the actual implementation is fairly non-controversial, except for maybe the choice of the error type. I chose an opaque error here instead of something like `std::str::Utf8Error`, since that would already make a number of assumption about the underlying implementation of `OsStr`.

As this is a trait implementation, it is insta-stable, if I'm not mistaken?
Either way this will need an FCP.
I chose "1.64.0" as the version, since this is unlikely to land before the beta cut-off.

afa9fef709 Auto merge of #112418 - ferrocene:pa-mir-opt-panic, r=ozkanonur,saethlin
Add support for targets without unwinding in `mir-opt`, and improve `--bless` for it

The main goal of this PR is to add support for targets without unwinding support in the `mir-opt` test suite, by adding the `EMIT_MIR_FOR_EACH_PANIC_STRATEGY` comment. Similarly to 32bit vs 64bit, when that comment is present, blessed output files will have the `.panic-unwind` or `.panic-abort` suffix, and the right one will be chosen depending on the target's panic strategy.

The `EMIT_MIR_FOR_EACH_PANIC_STRATEGY` comment replaced all the `ignore-wasm32` comments in the `mir-opt` test suite, as those comments were added due to `wasm32` being a target without unwinding support. The comment was also added on other tests that were only executed on x86 but were still panic strategy dependent.

The `mir-opt` suite was then blessed, which caused a ton of churn as most of the existing output files had to be renamed and (mostly) duplicated with the abort strategy.

---

After [asking on Zulip](https://rust-lang.zulipchat.com/#narrow/stream/131828-t-compiler/topic/mir-opt.20tests.20and.20panic.3Dabort), the main concern about this change is it'd make blessing the `mir-opt` suite even harder, as you'd need to both bless it with an unwinding target and an aborting target. This exacerbated the current situation, where you'd need to bless it with a 32bit and a 64bit target already.

Because of that, this PR also makes significant enhancements to `--bless` for the `mir-opt` suite, where it will automatically bless the suite four times with different targets, while requiring minimal cross-compilation.

To handle the 32bit vs 64bit blessing, there is now an hardcoded list of target mapping between 32bit and 64bit. The goal of the list is to find a related target that will *probably* work without requiring additional cross-compilation toolchains on the system. If a mapping is found, bootstrap will bless the suite with both targets, otherwise just with the current target.

To handle the panic strategy blessing (abort vs unwind), I had to resort to what I call "synthetic targets". For each of the target we're blessing (so either the current one, or a 32bit and a 64bit depending on the previous paragraph), bootstrap will extract the JSON spec of the target and change it to include `"panic-strategy": "abort"`. It will then build the standard library with this synthetic target, and bless the `mir-opt` suite with it.

As a result of these changes, blessing the `mir-opt` suite will actually bless it two or four times with different targets, ensuring all possible variants are actually blessed.

Ignore `core`, `alloc` and `test` tests that require unwinding on `-C panic=abort`

Some of the tests for `core` and `alloc` require unwinding through their use of `catch_unwind`. These tests fail when testing using `-C panic=abort` (in my case through a target without unwinding support, and `-Z panic-abort-tests`), while they should be ignored as they don't indicate a failure.

This PR marks all of these tests with this attribute:

```rust
#[cfg_attr(not(panic = "unwind"), ignore = "test requires unwinding support")]
```

I'm not aware of a way to test this on rust-lang/rust's CI, as we don't test any target with `-C panic=abort`, but I tested this locally on a Ferrocene target and it does indeed make the test suite pass.

Make BinaryHeap parametric over Allocator

Tracking issue: #32838
Related: https://github.com/rust-lang/wg-allocators/issues/7

This parametrizes `BinaryHeap` with `A`, similarly to how other collections are parametrized.

A couple things I left out:

```
BinaryHeap::append
    Currently requires both structures to have the same allocator type. Could
    change, but depends on Vec::append, which has the same constraints.
impl<T: Ord> Default for BinaryHeap<T>
    Not parametrized, because there's nowhere to conjure the allocator from.
impl<T: Ord> FromIterator<T> for BinaryHeap<T>
    Not parametrized, because there's nowhere to conjure the allocator from.
impl<T: Ord, const N: usize> From<[T; N]> for BinaryHeap<T>
    Not parametrized, because there's nowhere to conjure the allocator from.
unsafe impl<I> AsVecIntoIter for IntoIter<I>
    AsVecIntoIter is not allocator aware, and I didn't dare change it without guidance. Is this something important?
```

I've seen very few tests for allocator_api in general, but I'd like to at least test this on some usage code in my projects before moving forward.

EDIT: Updated the list of impls and functions that are not affected by this. `BinaryHeap` no longer has a `SpecExtend` impl, and prior work made implementing `Extend` possible.

See discussion: https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/112265#issuecomment-1575479683

Static loading `ntdll` functions does not work for UWP programs, which will end up link errors complaining about missing symbols, or failure to pass the WACK tests. The breakage was introduced in #108262.

This PR basically reverts part of the changes in #108262 for UWP only, and fixes some lint suggestions.

Uplift `clippy::cmp_nan` lint

This PR aims at uplifting the `clippy::cmp_nan` lint into rustc.

## `invalid_nan_comparisons`

~~(deny-by-default)~~ (warn-by-default)

The `invalid_nan_comparisons` lint checks comparison with `f32::NAN` or `f64::NAN` as one of the operand.

### Example

```rust,compile_fail
let a = 2.3f32;
if a == f32::NAN {}
```

### Explanation

NaN does not compare meaningfully to anything – not even itself – so those comparisons are always false.

### Example

Avoid unwind across `extern "C"` in `thread_local::fast_local`

This is a minimal fix for #112285, in case we want a simple patch that can be easily to backported if that's desirable.

*(Note: I have another broader cleanup which I've mostly omitted from here to avoid clutter, except for the `Cell` change, which isn't needed to fix UB, but simplifies safety comments).*

The only tier-1 target that this occurs on in a way that seems likely to cause problems in practice linux-gnu, although I believe some folks care about that platform somewhat 😉. I'm unsure how big of an issue this is. I've seen stuff like this behave quite badly, but there's a number of reasons to think this might actually be "fine in practice".

I've hedged my bets and assumed we'll backport this at least to beta but my feeling is that there's not enough evidence this is a problem worth backporting further than that.

### More details

This issue seems to have existed since `thread_local!`'s `const` init functionality was added. It occurs if you have a `const`-initialized thread local for a type that `needs_drop`, the drop panics, and you're on a target with support for static thread locals. In this case, we will end up defining an `extern "C"` function in the user crate rather than in libstd, and because the user crate will not have `#![feature(c_unwind)]` enabled, their panic will not be caught by an auto-inserted abort guard.

In practice, the actual situation where problems are likely[^ub] is somewhat narrower.

On most targets with static thread locals, we manage the TLS dtor list by hand (for reentrancy reasons among others). In these cases, while the users code may panic, we're calling it inside our own `extern "C"` (or `extern "system"`) function, which seems to (at least in practice) catch the panic and convert it to an abort.

However, on a few targets, most notably linux-gnu with recent glibc (but also fuchsia and redox), a tls dtor registration mechanism exists which we can actually use directly, [`__cxa_thread_atexit_impl`](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/blob/master/library/std/src/sys/unix/thread_local_dtor.rs#L26-L36).

This is the case that seems most likely to be a cause for concern, as now we're passing a function to the system library and panicking out of it in a case where there are may not be Rust frames above it on the call stack (since it's running thread shutdown), and even if there were, it may not be prepared to handle such unwinding. If that's the case, it'd be bad.

Is it? Dunno. The fact that it's a `__cxa_*` function makes me think they probably have considered that the callback could throw but I have no evidence here and it doesn't seem to be written down anywhere, so it's just a guess. (I would not be surprised if someone comes into this thread to tell me how definitely-bad-news it is).

That said, as I said, all this is actually UB! If this isn't a "technically UB but fine in practice", but all bets are off if this is the kind of thing we are telling LLVM about.

[^ub]: This is UB so take that with a grain of salt -- I'm absolutely making assumptions about how the UB will behave "in practice" here, which is almost certainly a mistake.

Add `task::Waker::noop`

I have found myself reimplementing this function many times when I need a `Context` but don't have a runtime or `futures` to hand.

Prior art: [`futures::task::noop_waker`](https://docs.rs/futures/0.3/futures/task/fn.noop_waker.html) and [`futures::task::noop_waker_ref`](https://docs.rs/futures/0.3/futures/task/fn.noop_waker_ref.html)

Tracking issue: https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/98286

Unresolved questions:
1. Should we also add `RawWaker::noop()`? (I don't think so, I can't think of a use case for it)
2. Should we also add `Context::noop()`? Depending on the future direction `Context` goes a "noop context" might not even make sense in future.
3. Should it be an associated constant instead? That would allow for `let cx = &mut Context::from_waker(&Waker::NOOP);` to work on one line which is pretty nice. I don't really know what the guideline is here.

Improved std support for ps vita target

Fixed a couple of things in std support for ps vita via Vita SDK newlib oss implementation:

- Added missing hardware features to target spec
- Compile in thumb by default (newlib is also compiled in thumb)
- Fixed fs calls. Vita newlib has a not-very-posix dirent. Also vita does not expose inodes, it's stubbed as 0 in stat, and I'm stubbing it here for dirent (because vita newlibs's dirent doesn't even have that field)
- Enabled signal handlers for panic unwinding
- Dropped static link requirement from the platform support md. Also, rearranged sections to better stick with the template.

Uplift `clippy::cast_ref_to_mut` lint

This PR aims at uplifting the `clippy::cast_ref_to_mut` lint into rustc.

## `cast_ref_to_mut`

(deny-by-default)

The `cast_ref_to_mut` lint checks for casts of `&T` to `&mut T` without using interior mutability.

### Example

```rust,compile_fail
fn x(r: &i32) {
    unsafe {
        *(r as *const i32 as *mut i32) += 1;
    }
}
```

### Explanation

Casting `&T` to `&mut T` without interior mutability is undefined behavior, as it's a violation of Rust reference aliasing requirements.

Allow limited access to `OsStr` bytes

`OsStr` has historically kept its implementation details private out of
concern for locking us into a specific encoding on Windows.

This is an alternative to rust-lang#95290 which proposed specifying the encoding on Windows. Instead, this
only specifies that for cross-platform code, `OsStr`'s encoding is a superset of UTF-8 and defines
rules for safely interacting with it

At minimum, this can greatly simplify the `os_str_bytes` crate and every
arg parser that interacts with `OsStr` directly (which is most of those
that support invalid UTF-8).

Rework handling of recursive panics

This PR makes 2 changes to how recursive panics works (a panic while handling a panic).

1. The panic count is no longer used to determine whether to force an immediate abort. This allows code like the following to work without aborting the process immediately:

```rust
struct Double;
impl Drop for Double {
    fn drop(&mut self) {
        // 2 panics are active at once, but this is fine since it is caught.
        std::panic::catch_unwind(|| panic!("twice"));
    }
}
let _d = Double;
panic!("once");
```

Rustc already generates appropriate code so that any exceptions escaping out of a `Drop` called in the unwind path will immediately abort the process.

2. Any panics while the panic hook is executing will force an immediate abort. This is necessary to avoid potential deadlocks like #110771 where a panic happens while holding the backtrace lock. We don't even try to print the panic message in this case since the panic may have been caused by `Display` impls.

Add Median of Medians fallback to introselect

Fixes #102451.

This PR is a follow up to #106997. It adds a Fast Deterministic Selection implementation as a fallback to the introselect algorithm used by `select_nth_unstable`. This allows it to guarantee O(n) worst case running time, while maintaining good performance in all cases.

This would fix #102451, which was opened because the `select_nth_unstable` docs falsely claimed that it had O(n) worst case performance, even though it was actually quadratic in the worst case. #106997 improved the worst case complexity to O(n log n) by using heapsort as a fallback, and this PR further improves it to O(n) (this would also make #106933 unnecessary).
It also improves the actual runtime if the fallback gets called: Using a pathological input of size `1 << 19` (see the playground link in #102451), calculating the median is roughly 3x faster using fast deterministic selection as a fallback than it is using heapsort.

The downside to this is less code reuse between the sorting and selection algorithms, but I don't think it's that bad. The additional algorithms are ~250 LOC with no `unsafe` blocks (I tried using unsafe to avoid bounds checks but it didn't noticeably improve the performance).
I also let it fuzz for a while against the current `select_nth_unstable` implementation to ensure correctness, and it seems to still fulfill all the necessary postconditions.

Support #[global_allocator] without the allocator shim

This makes it possible to use liballoc/libstd in combination with `--emit obj` if you use `#[global_allocator]`. This is what rust-for-linux uses right now and systemd may use in the future. Currently they have to depend on the exact implementation of the allocator shim to create one themself as `--emit obj` doesn't create an allocator shim.

Note that currently the allocator shim also defines the oom error handler, which is normally required too. Once `#![feature(default_alloc_error_handler)]` becomes the only option, this can be avoided. In addition when using only fallible allocator methods and either `--cfg no_global_oom_handling` for liballoc (like rust-for-linux) or `--gc-sections` no references to the oom error handler will exist.

To avoid this feature being insta-stable, you will have to define `__rust_no_alloc_shim_is_unstable` to avoid linker errors.

(Labeling this with both T-compiler and T-lang as it originally involved both an implementation detail and had an insta-stable user facing change. As noted above, the `__rust_no_alloc_shim_is_unstable` symbol requirement should prevent unintended dependence on this unstable feature.)

         |     ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

      error: could not compile `std` (test "create_dir_all_bare") due to 2 previous errors

This happens because Cargo passes `--extern 'priv:std=...` when
compiling the test crate.

I'm not sure if these warnings are desirable or not. They seem correct
in a very pedantic way (the dependency on `std` is not marked public,
since it's implicit), but also pointless (the test crate is not an API,
so who cares what it does).

Rollup merge of #95198 - clarfonthey:get_chunk, r=scottmcm
Add slice::{split_,}{first,last}_chunk{,_mut}

This adds to the existing tracking issue for `slice::array_chunks` (#74985) under a separate feature, `slice_get_chunk`.

Currently, we have the existing `first`/`last` API for slices:

```rust
impl [T] {
    pub const fn first(&self) -> Option<&T>;
    pub const fn first_mut(&mut self) -> Option<&mut T>;
    pub const fn last(&self) -> Option<&T>;
    pub const fn last_mut(&mut self) -> Option<&mut T>;
    pub const fn split_first(&self) -> Option<(&T, &[T])>;
    pub const fn split_first_mut(&mut self) -> Option<(&mut T, &mut [T])>;
    pub const fn split_last(&self) -> Option<(&T, &[T])>;
    pub const fn split_last_mut(&mut self) -> Option<(&mut T, &mut [T])>;
}
```

This augments it with a `first_chunk`/`last_chunk` API that allows retrieving multiple elements at once:

```rust
impl [T] {
    pub const fn first_chunk<const N: usize>(&self) -> Option<&[T; N]>;
    pub const fn first_chunk_mut<const N: usize>(&mut self) -> Option<&mut [T; N]>;
    pub const fn last_chunk<const N: usize>(&self) -> Option<&[T; N]>;
    pub const fn last_chunk_mut<const N: usize>(&mut self) -> Option<&mut [T; N]>;
    pub const fn split_first_chunk<const N: usize>(&self) -> Option<(&[T; N], &[T])>;
    pub const fn split_first_chunk_mut<const N: usize>(&mut self) -> Option<(&mut [T; N], &mut [T])>;
    pub const fn split_last_chunk<const N: usize>(&self) -> Option<(&[T; N], &[T])>;
    pub const fn split_last_chunk_mut<const N: usize>(&mut self) -> Option<(&mut [T; N], &mut [T])>;
}
```

The code is based off of a copy of the existing API, with the documentation and examples properly modified. Currently, the most common way to perform these kinds of lookups with the existing methods is via `slice.as_chunks::<N>().0[0]` or the worse `slice.as_chunks::<N>().0[slice.len() - N]`, which is substantially less readable than `slice.first_chunk::<N>()` or `slice.last_chunk::<N>()`.

don't skip inference for type in `offset_of!`

Fixes https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/111678 by no longer skipping inference on the type in `offset_of!`. Simply erasing the regions the during writeback isn't enough and can cause ICEs. A test case for this is included.

This reverts https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/111661, because it becomes redundant, since inference already erases the regions.

Add more tests for the offset_of macro

Implements what I [suggested in the tracking issue](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/106655#issuecomment-1535007205), plus some further improvements:

* ensuring that offset_of!(Self, ...) works iff inside an impl block
* ensuring that the output type is usize and doesn't coerce. this can be changed in the future, but if it is done, it should be a conscious decision
* improving the privacy checking test
* ensuring that generics don't let you escape the unsized check

e86fd62b6b Auto merge of #111524 - scottmcm:escape-using-ascii, r=cuviper
`ascii::Char`-ify the escaping code in `core`

This means that `EscapeIterInner::as_str` no longer needs unsafe code, because the type system ensures the internal buffer is only ASCII, and thus valid UTF-8.

Come to think of it, this also gives it a (non-guaranteed) niche.

Shorten even more panic temporary lifetimes

Followup to #104134. As pointed out by `@bjorn3` in https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/104134#pullrequestreview-1425585948, there are other cases in the panic macros which would also benefit from dropping their non-Send temporaries as soon as possible, avoiding pointlessly holding them across an await point.

For the tests added in this PR, here are the failures you get today on master without the macro changes in this PR:

Change Vec examples to not assert exact capacity except where it is guaranteed

So, to reduce confusion change all the `assert_eq!(vec.capacity(), _)` to `assert!(vec.capacity() >= _)`, except in 4 examples that have guaranteed capacities: `Vec::from_raw_parts`, `Vec::from_raw_parts_in`, `Vec::<()>::with_capacity`,`Vec::<(), _>::with_capacity_in`.

Remove unnecessary Send bound

Hi,

While working on a [PR on Tokio](https://github.com/tokio-rs/tokio/pull/5666), I took inspiration from the std channel mpsc and stumbled on a `Send` bound for a `Error` impl.

Tokio's maintainer `@Darksonn` pointed out to me that `Error` used to required the `Send` bound long time ago (here https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/23541).

In the meantime, the `Send` bound `Error` got removed (see https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/21312 and https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/23799).

So here a PR to removed this bound for `SendError<T>`, `TrySendError<T>` and `SendTimeoutError<T>`.

Add midpoint function for all integers and floating numbers

This pull-request adds the `midpoint` function to `{u,i}{8,16,32,64,128,size}`, `NonZeroU{8,16,32,64,size}` and `f{32,64}`.

This new function is analog to the [C++ midpoint](https://en.cppreference.com/w/cpp/numeric/midpoint) function, and basically compute `(a + b) / 2` with a rounding towards ~~`a`~~ negative infinity in the case of integers. Or simply said: `midpoint(a, b)` is `(a + b) >> 1` as if it were performed in a sufficiently-large signed integral type.

Note that unlike the C++ function this pull-request does not implement this function on pointers (`*const T` or `*mut T`). This could be implemented in a future pull-request if desire.

### Implementation

For `f32` and `f64` the implementation in based on the `libcxx` [one](18ab892ff7/libcxx/include/__numeric/midpoint.h (L65-L77)). I originally tried many different approach but all of them failed or lead me with a poor version of the `libcxx`. Note that `libstdc++` has a very similar one; Microsoft STL implementation is also basically the same as `libcxx`. It unfortunately doesn't seems like a better way exist.

For unsigned integers I created the macro `midpoint_impl!`, this macro has two branches:
 - The first one take `$SelfT` and is used when there is no unsigned integer with at least the double of bits. The code simply use this formula `a + (b - a) / 2` with the arguments in the correct order and signs to have the good rounding.
 - The second branch is used when a `$WideT` (at least double of bits as `$SelfT`) is provided, using a wider number means that no overflow can occur, this greatly improve the codegen (no branch and less instructions).

For signed integers the code basically forwards the signed numbers to the unsigned version of midpoint by mapping the signed numbers to their unsigned numbers (`ex: i8 [-128; 127] to [0; 255]`) and vice versa.
I originally created a version that worked directly on the signed numbers but the code was "ugly" and not understandable. Despite this mapping "overhead" the codegen is better than my most optimized version on signed integers.

~~Note that in the case of unsigned numbers I tried to be smart and used `#[cfg(target_pointer_width = "64")]` to determine if using the wide version was better or not by looking at the assembly on godbolt. This was applied to `u32`, `u64` and `usize` and doesn't change the behavior only the assembly code generated.~~

PhantomData: fix documentation wrt interaction with dropck

As far as I could find out, the `PhantomData`-dropck interaction *only* affects code using `may_dangle`. The documentation in the standard library has not been updated for 8 years and thus stems from a time when Rust still used "parametric dropck", before [RFC 1238](https://rust-lang.github.io/rfcs/1238-nonparametric-dropck.html). Back then what the docs said was correct, but with `may_dangle` dropck it stopped being entirely accurate and these days, with NLL, it is actively misleading.

077fc26f0a Auto merge of #109732 - Urgau:uplift_drop_forget_ref_lints, r=davidtwco
Uplift `clippy::{drop,forget}_{ref,copy}` lints

This PR aims at uplifting the `clippy::drop_ref`, `clippy::drop_copy`, `clippy::forget_ref` and `clippy::forget_copy` lints.

Those lints are/were declared in the correctness category of clippy because they lint on useless and most probably is not what the developer wanted.

## `drop_ref` and `forget_ref`

The `drop_ref` and `forget_ref` lint checks for calls to `std::mem::drop` or `std::mem::forget` with a reference instead of an owned value.

### Example

```rust
let mut lock_guard = mutex.lock();
std::mem::drop(&lock_guard) // Should have been drop(lock_guard), mutex
// still locked
operation_that_requires_mutex_to_be_unlocked();
```

### Explanation

Calling `drop` or `forget` on a reference will only drop the reference itself, which is a no-op. It will not call the `drop` or `forget` method on the underlying referenced value, which is likely what was intended.

## `drop_copy` and `forget_copy`

The `drop_copy` and `forget_copy` lint checks for calls to `std::mem::forget` or `std::mem::drop` with a value that derives the Copy trait.

### Example

```rust
let x: i32 = 42; // i32 implements Copy
std::mem::forget(x) // A copy of x is passed to the function, leaving the
                    // original unaffected
```

### Explanation

Calling `std::mem::forget` [does nothing for types that implement Copy](https://doc.rust-lang.org/std/mem/fn.drop.html) since the value will be copied and moved into the function on invocation.

Simplify the implementation of iterators over slices of ZSTs

Currently, slice iterators over ZSTs store `end = start.wrapping_byte_add(len)`.

That's slightly convenient for `is_empty`, but kinda annoying for pretty much everything else -- see bugs like #42789, for example.

This PR instead changes it to just `end = ptr::invalid(len)` instead.

That's easier to think about (IMHO, at least) as well as easier to represent.

`next` is still to big to get inlined into the mir-opt/pre-codegen/ tests, but if I bump the inline threshold to force it to show the whole thing, this implementation is also less MIR:
```
> git diff --numstat
241     370     tests/mir-opt/pre-codegen/slice_iter.forward_loop.PreCodegen.after.mir
255     329     tests/mir-opt/pre-codegen/slice_iter.reverse_loop.PreCodegen.after.mir
182     254     tests/mir-opt/pre-codegen/slice_iter.slice_iter_next.PreCodegen.after.mir
```
(That's ≈70 lines less for `Iter::next`, for example.)

Remove some `assume`s from slice iterators that don't do anything

Because the start pointer is iterators is already a `NonNull`, we emit the appropriate `!nonnull` metadata when loading the pointer to tell LLVM that it's non-null.

Probably the best way to see that it's the metadata that's important (and not the `assume`) is to observe that LLVM actually *removes* the `assume` from the optimized IR: <https://rust.godbolt.org/z/KhE6G963n>.

(I also checked that, yes, the if-not-ZST `assume` on `end` is still doing something: it's how there's a `!nonnull` metadata on its load, even though it's an ordinary raw pointer. The codegen test added in this PR fails if the other `assume` is removed.)

Start using `windows sys` for Windows FFI bindings in std

Switch to using windows-sys for FFI. In order to avoid some currently contentious issues, this uses windows-bindgen to generate a smaller set of bindings instead of using the full crate.

Unlike the windows-sys crate, the generated bindings uses `*mut c_void` for handle types instead of `isize`. This to sidestep opsem concerns about mixing pointer types and integers between languages. Note that `SOCKET` remains defined as an integer but instead of being a usize, it's changed to fit the [standard library definition](a41fc00eaf/library/std/src/os/windows/raw.rs (L12-L16)):

```rust
#[cfg(target_pointer_width = "32")]
pub type SOCKET = u32;
#[cfg(target_pointer_width = "64")]
pub type SOCKET = u64;
```

The generated bindings also customizes the `#[link]` imports. I hope to switch to using raw-dylib but I don't want to tie that too closely with the switch to windows-sys.

---

Changes outside of the bindings are, for the most part, fairly minimal (e.g. some differences in `*mut` vs. `*const` or a few types differ). One issue is that our own bindings sometimes mix in higher level types, like `BorrowedHandle`. This is pretty adhoc though.

Always const-evaluate the GCD in `slice::align_to_offsets`

Use an inline `const`-block to force the compiler to calculate the GCD at compile time, even in debug mode. This shouldn't affect the behavior of the program at all, but it drastically cuts down on the number of instructions emitted with optimizations disabled.

With the current implementation, a single `slice::align_to` instantiation (specifically `<[u8]>::align_to::<u128>()`) generates 676 instructions (on x86-64). Forcing the GCD computation to be const cuts it down to 327 instructions, so just over 50% less. This is obviously not representative of actual runtime gains, but I still see it as a significant win as long as it doesn't degrade compile times.

Not having to worry about LLVM const-evaluating the GCD function also allows it to use the textbook recursive euclidean algorithm instead of a much more complicated iterative implementation with multiple `unsafe`-blocks.

Fix MXCSR configuration dependent timing

Dependent on the (potentially secret) data some vector instructions operate on, and the content in MXCSR, instruction retirement may be delayed by one cycle. This is a potential side channel.

This PR fixes this vulnerability for the `x86_64-fortanix-unknown-sgx` platform by loading MXCSR with `0x1fbf` through an `xrstor` instruction when the enclave is entered and executing an `lfence` immediately after. Other changes of the MXCSR happen only when the enclave is about to be exited and no vector instructions will be executed before it will actually do so. Users of EDP who change the MXCSR and do wish to defend against this side channel, will need to implement the software mitigation described [here](https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/developer/articles/technical/software-security-guidance/best-practices/mxcsr-configuration-dependent-timing.html).

avoid duplicating TLS state between test std and realstd

This basically re-lands https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/100201 and https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/106638, which got reverted by https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/110861. This works around 2 Miri limitations:
- Miri doesn't support the magic linker section that our Windows TLS support relies on, and instead knows where in std to find the symbol that stores the thread callback.
- For macOS, Miri only supports at most one destructor to be registered per thread.

The 2nd would not be very hard to fix (though the intended destructor order is unclear); the first would be a lot of work to fix. Neither of these is a problem for regular Rust code, but in the std test suite we have essentially 2 copies of the std code and then these both become issues. To avoid that we have the std test crate import the TLS code from the real std instead of having its own copy.

For now this is an `enum` as `@kupiakos` [suggested](https://github.com/rust-lang/libs-team/issues/179#issuecomment-1527959724), with the variants under a different feature flag.

There's lots more things that could be added here, and place for further doc updates, but this seems like a plausible starting point PR.

I've gone through and put an `as_ascii` next to every `is_ascii`: on `u8`, `char`, `[u8]`, and `str`.

As a demonstration, made a commit updating some formatting code to use this: https://github.com/scottmcm/rust/commit/ascii-char-in-fmt (I don't want to include that in this PR, though, because that brings in perf questions that don't exist if this is just adding new unstable APIs.)

With #98391 merged, all platforms supporting threads now have their own parking implementations. Therefore, the generic implementation can be removed. On the remaining platforms (really just WASM without atomics), parking is not supported, so calls to `thread::park` now return instantly, which is [allowed by their API](https://doc.rust-lang.org/nightly/std/thread/fn.park.html). This is a change in behaviour, as spurious wakeups do not currently occur since all platforms guard against them. It is invalid to depend on this, but I'm still going to tag this as libs-api for confirmation.

Add cross-language LLVM CFI support to the Rust compiler

It provides forward-edge control flow protection for C or C++ and Rust -compiled code "mixed binaries" (i.e., for when C or C++ and Rust -compiled code share the same virtual address space). Implement tuple<->array convertions via `From`

This PR adds the following impls that convert between homogeneous tuples and arrays of the corresponding lengths:
```rust
impl<T> From<[T; 1]> for (T,) { ... }
impl<T> From<[T; 2]> for (T, T) { ... }
/* ... */
impl<T> From<[T; 12]> for (T, T, T, T, T, T, T, T, T, T, T, T) { ... }
impl<T> From<(T,)> for [T; 1] { ... }
impl<T> From<(T, T)> for [T; 2] { ... }
/* ... */
impl<T> From<(T, T, T, T, T, T, T, T, T, T, T, T)> for [T; 12] { ... }
```

IMO these are quite uncontroversial but note that they are, just like any other trait impls, insta-stable.

Correctly convert an NT path to a Win32 path
This can be done by simply changing the `\??\` prefix to `\\?\` and then attempting to convert to a user path.

Currently it simply strips off the prefix which could lead to the wrong path being returned (e.g. if it's not a drive path or if the path contains trailing spaces, etc).

Ensure test library issues json string line-by-line

#108659 introduces a custom test display implementation. It does so by using libtest to output json. The stdout is read line by line and parsed. The code trims the line read and checks whether it starts with a `{` and ends with a `}`.

Unfortunately, there is a race condition in how json data is written to stdout. The `write_message` function calls `self.out.write_all` repeatedly to write a buffer that contains (partial) json data, or a new line. There is no lock around the `self.out.write_all` functions. Similarly, the `write_message` function itself is called with only partial json data. As these functions are called from concurrent threads, this may result in json data ending up on the same stdout line. This PR avoids this by buffering the complete json data before issuing a single `self.out.write_all`.

(#109484 implemented a partial fix for this issue; it only avoids that failed json parsing would result in a panic.)

Refactor core::char::EscapeDefault and co. structures

Change core::char::{EscapeUnicode, EscapeDefault and EscapeDebug}
structures from using a state machine to computing escaped sequence
upfront and during iteration just going through the characters.

This is arguably simpler since it’s easier to think about having
a buffer and start..end range to iterate over rather than thinking
about a state machine.

This also harmonises implementation of aforementioned iterators and
core::ascii::EscapeDefault struct. This is done by introducing a new
helper EscapeIterInner struct which holds the buffer and offers simple
methods for iterating over range.

As a side effect, this probably optimises Display implementation for
those types since rather than calling write_char repeatedly, write_str
is invoked once. On 64-bit platforms, it also reduces size of some of
the structs:

    | Struct                     | Before | After |
    |----------------------------+--------+-------+
    | core::char::EscapeUnicode  |     16 |    12 |
    | core::char::EscapeDefault  |     16 |    12 |
    | core::char::EscapeDebug    |     16 |    16 |

My ulterior motive and reason why I started looking into this is
addition of as_str method to the iterators. With this change this
will became trivial. It’s also going to be trivial to implement
DoubleEndedIterator if that’s ever desired.

Make `mem::replace` simpler in codegen

Since they'd mentioned more intrinsics for simplifying stuff recently,
r? `@WaffleLapkin`

This is a continuation of me looking at foundational stuff that ends up with more instructions than it really needs. Specifically I noticed this one because `Range::next` isn't MIR-inlining, and one of the largest parts of it is a `replace::<usize>` that's a good dozen instructions instead of the two it could be.

So this means that `ptr::write` with a `Copy` type no longer generates worse IR than manually dereferencing (well, at least in LLVM -- MIR still has bonus pointer casts), and in doing so means that we're finally down to just the two essential `memcpy`s when emitting `mem::replace` for a large type, rather than the bonus-`alloca` and three `memcpy`s we emitted before this ([or the 6 we currently emit in 1.69 stable](https://rust.godbolt.org/z/67W8on6nP)). That said, LLVM does _usually_ manage to optimize the extra code away. But it's still nice for it not to have to do as much, thanks to (for example) not going through an `alloca` when `replace`ing a primitive like a `usize`.

(This is a new intrinsic, but one that's immediately lowered to existing MIR constructs, so not anything that MIRI or the codegen backends or MIR semantics needs to do work to handle.)

`inline(always)` for `lt`/`le`/`ge`/`gt` on integers and floats

I happened to notice one of these not getting inlined as part of `Range::next` in <https://rust.godbolt.org/z/4WKWWxj1G>
```rust
    bb1: {
        StorageLive(_5);
        _6 = &mut _4;
        StorageLive(_21);
        StorageLive(_14);
        StorageLive(_15);
        _15 = &((*_6).0: usize);
        StorageLive(_16);
        _16 = &((*_6).1: usize);
        _14 = <usize as PartialOrd>::lt(move _15, move _16) -> bb7;
    }
```

So since a call for something that's just one instruction is never the right choice, `#[inline(always)]` seems appropriate, like we have it on things like the rotate methods on integers.

Make sure that some stdlib method signatures aren't accidental refinements

In the process of implementing https://rust-lang.github.io/rfcs/3245-refined-impls.html, I found a bunch of stdlib implementations that accidentally "refined" their method signatures by dropping (unnecessary) bounds.

This isn't currently a problem, but may become one if/when method signature refining is stabilized in the future. Shouldn't hurt to make these signatures a bit more accurate anyways.

NOTE (just to be clear lol): This does not affect behavior at all, since we don't actually take advantage of refined implementations yet!

Use MIR's `Offset` for pointer `add` too

~~Status: draft while waiting for #110822 to land, since this is built atop that.~~
~~r? `@ghost~~`

Canonical Rust code has mostly moved to `add`/`sub` on pointers, which take `usize`, instead of `offset` which takes `isize`. (And, relatedly, when `sub_ptr` was added it turned out it replaced every single in-tree use of `offset_from`, because `usize` is just so much more useful than `isize` in Rust.)

Unfortunately, `intrinsics::offset` could only accept `*const` and `isize`, so there's a *huge* amount of type conversions back and forth being done. They're identity conversions in the backend, but still end up producing quite a lot of unhelpful MIR.

This PR changes `intrinsics::offset` to accept `*const` *and* `*mut` along with `isize` *and* `usize`. Conveniently, the backends and CTFE already handle this, since MIR's `BinOp::Offset` [already supports all four combinations](adaac6b166/compiler/rustc_const_eval/src/transform/validate.rs (L523-L528)).

To demonstrate the difference, I added some `mir-opt/pre-codegen/` tests around slice indexing. Here's the difference to `[T]::get_mut`, since it uses `<*mut _>::add` internally:
```diff
`@@` -79,30 +70,21 `@@` fn slice_get_mut_usize(_1: &mut [u32], _2: usize) -> Option<&mut u32> {
8857cc2131 inline(always) for lt/le/ge/gt on integers and floats
I happened to notice one of these not getting inlined as part of `Range::next` in <https://rust.godbolt.org/z/4WKWWxj1G>
```rust
    bb1: {
        StorageLive(_5);
        _6 = &mut _4;
        StorageLive(_21);
        StorageLive(_14);
        StorageLive(_15);
        _15 = &((*_6).0: usize);
        StorageLive(_16);
        _16 = &((*_6).1: usize);
        _14 = <usize as PartialOrd>::lt(move _15, move _16) -> bb7;
    }
```
So since a call for something this trivial is never the right choice, `#[inline(always)]` seems appropriate.
Change memory ordering in System wrapper example
Currently, the `SeqCst` ordering is used, which seems unnecessary:
+ Even `Relaxed` ordering guarantees that all updates are atomic and are executed in total order
+ User code only reads atomic for monitoring purposes, no "happens-before" relationships with actual allocations and deallocations are needed for this
If argumentation above is correct, I propose changing ordering to `Relaxed` to clarify that no synchronization is required here, and improve performance (if somebody copy-pastes this example into their code).
Second, the docs for `v1` don't matter since the [prelude module] already has all the doc links. The `rust_2021` module for instance also doesnt have a convenient doc page. However as I understand glob imports still cant be used because the items dont have the same stabilisation versions.
Restructure and rename std thread_local internals to make it less of a maze
Every time I try to work on std's thread local internals, it feels like I'm trying to navigate a confusing maze made of macros, deeply nested modules, and types with multiple names/aliases. Time to clean it up a bit.
This PR:
- Exports `Key` with its own name (`Key`), instead of `__LocalKeyInner`
- Uses `pub macro` to put `__thread_local_inner` into a (unstable, hidden) module, removing `#[macro_export]`, removing it from the crate root.
- Removes the `__` from `__thread_local_inner`.
- Removes a few unnecessary `allow_internal_unstable` features from the macros
- Removes the `libstd_thread_internals` feature. (Merged with `thread_local_internals`.)
    - And removes it from the unstable book
- Gets rid of the deeply nested modules for the `Key` definitions (`mod fast` / `mod os` / `mod statik`).
- Turns a `#[cfg]` mess into a single `cfg_if`, now that there's no `#[macro_export]` anymore that breaks with `cfg_if`.
- Simplifies the `cfg_if` conditions to not repeat the conditions.
- Removes useless `normalize-stderr-test`, which were left over from when the `Key` types had different names on different platforms.
- Removes a seemingly unnecessary `realstd` re-export on `cfg(test)`.
This PR changes nothing about the thread local implementation. That's for a later PR. (Which should hopefully be easier once all this stuff is a bit cleaned up.)
Fix `std` compilation error for wasi+atomics
Fix https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/109727
It seems that the `unsupported/once.rs` module isn't meant to exist at the same time as the `futex` module, as they have conflicting definitions.
I've solved this by defining the `once` module only if `not(target_feature = "atomics")`.
The `wasm32-unknown-unknown` target [similarly only defines the `once` module if `not(target_feature = "atomics")`](01c4f31927/library/std/src/sys/wasm/mod.rs (L69-L70)).
As show in [this block of code](01c4f31927/library/std/src/sys_common/once/mod.rs (L10-L34)), the `sys::once` module doesn't need to exist if `all(target_arch = "wasm32", target_feature = "atomics")`.
Add shortcut for Grisu3 algorithm.
While Grisu3 is way more faster for most numbers compare to Dragon4, the fall back to Dragon4 procedure for certain numbers could cause some performance regressions compare to use Dragon4 directly. Mitigating the regression caused by falling back is important for a largely used core library.
In Grisu3 algorithm implementation, there's a shortcut to jump out earlier when the fractional or integrals cannot meet the requirement of requested digits. This could significantly improve the performance of converting floating number to string as it falls back even without starting trying the algorithm.
The original idea is from the [.NET implementation](https://github.com/dotnet/runtime/blob/main/src/libraries/System.Private.CoreLib/src/System/Number.Grisu3.cs#L602-L615) and the code was originally added in [this PR](https://github.com/dotnet/coreclr/pull/14646#issuecomment-350942050). This shortcut has been shipped long time ago and has been proved working.
