Rollup merge of #108896 - BoxyUwU:new_solver_add_goal_fn, r=lcnr
new solver: make all goal evaluation able to be automatically rerun

It is generally wrong to call `evaluate_goal` multiple times or `evaluate_goal` and `evaluate_all` for the same `QueryResult` without correctly handling rerunning the goals when inference makes progress. Not doing so will result in the assertion in `evaluate_goal` firing because rerunning the goal will lead to a more accurate `QueryResult`.

Currently there are lots of places that get this wrong and generally it is complex and error prone to handle correctly everywhere. This PR introduces a way to add goals to the `EvalCtxt` and then run all the added goals in a loop so that `evaluate_goal`/`evaluate_all` is not necessary to call manually.

There are a few complications for making everything work "right":
1. the `normalizes-to` hack that replaces the rhs with an unconstrained infer var requires special casing in the new `try_evaluate_added_goals` function similar to how `evaluate_goal`'s assertion special cases that hack.

2. `assemble_candidates_after_normalizing_self_ty`'s normalization step needs to be reran for each candidate otherwise the found candidates will potentially get a more accurate `QueryResult` when rerunning the projection/trait goal which can effect the `QueryResult` of the projection/trait goal.
This is implemented via `EvalCtxt::probe`'s closure's `EvalCtxt` inheriting the added goals of the `EvalCtxt` that `probe` is called on, allowing us to add goals in a probe, and then enter a nested probe for each candidate and evaluate added goals which include the normalization step's goals.

I made `make_canonical_response` evaluate added goals so that it will be hard to mess up the impl of the solver by forgetting to evaluate added goals. Right now the only way to mess this up would be to call `response_no_constraints` (which from the name is obviously weird).

The visibility of `evaluate_goal` means that it can be called from various `compute_x_goal` or candidate assembly functions, this is generally wrong and we should never call `evaluate_goal` manually, instead we should be calling `add_goal`/`add_goals`. This is solved by moving `evaluate_goal` `evaluate_canonical_goal` and `compute_goal` into `eval_ctxt`'s module and making them private so they cannot be called from elsewhere, forcing people to call `add_goal/s` and `evaluate_added_goals_and_make_canonical_resposne`/`try_evaluate_added_goals`

---

Other changes:
- removed the `&& false` that was introduced to the assertion in `evaluate_goal` in #108839
- remove a `!self.did_overflow()` requirement in `search_graph.is_empty()` which causes goals that overflow to ICE
- made `EvalCtxt::eq` take `&mut self` and add all the nested goals via `add_goals` instead of returning them as 99% of call sites just immediately called `EvalCtxt::add_goals` manually.

migrate compiler, bootstrap and compiletest to windows-rs

This PR migrates the compiler, bootstrap, and compiletest to use [windows-rs](https://github.com/microsoft/windows-rs) instead of winapi-rs. windows-rs is the bindings crate provided by Microsoft, and is actively maintained compared to winapi-rs. Not all ecosystem crates have migrated over yet, so there will be a period of time where both crates are used.

windows-rs also provides some nice ergonomics over winapi-rs to convert return values to `Result`s (which found a case where we forgot to check the return value of `CreateFileW`).

Fixes #109177

Don't display typo suggestions for unstable things, unless the feature flag is enabled.

AFAIK, there are two places this occurs:
- `rustc_resolve`: before type checking, effectively just `FnCtxt::Free`.
- `rustc_hir_typck`: during type checking, for `FnCtxt::Assoc(..)`s.

The linked issue is about the latter, obviously the issue is applicable to both.

Add note for mismatched types because of circular dependencies

If you have crate A with a dependency on crate B, and crate B with a dev-dependency on A, then you might see "mismatched types" errors on types that seem to be equal. This PR adds a note that explains that the types are different, because crate B is compiled twice, one time with `cfg(test)` and one time without.

I haven't found a good way to create circular dependencies in UI tests, so I abused the incremental tests instead. As a bonus, incremental tests support "cpass" now.

The last commit makes tidy use more threads, so comparing "before (8 threads)" to "after (64 threads)" is IMO the most realistic comparison. Locally, that brings the time for me to run tidy down from 4 to .9 seconds, i.e. the majority of the time for `x test tidy` is now spend running `fmt --check`.

Pass the right HIR back from `get_fn_decl`

Fixes #109232

Makes sure that the `fn_id: HirId` that we pass to `suggest_missing_return_type` matches up with the `fn_decl: hir::FnDecl` that we pass to it, so the late-bound vars that we fetch from the former match up with the types in the latter...

This HIR suggestion code really needs a big refactor. I've tried to do it in the past (a couple of attempts), but it's a super tangled mess. It really shouldn't be passing around things like `hir::Node` and just deal with `LocalDefId`s everywhere... Anyways, I'd rather fix this ICE, now.

Install projection from RPITIT to default trait method opaque correctly

1. For new lowering strategy `-Zlower-impl-trait-in-trait-to-assoc-ty`, install the correct default trait method projection predicates (RPITIT -> opaque). This makes default trait body tests pass!

2. Fix two WF-checking bugs -- first, we want to make sure that we're always looking for an opaque type in `check_return_position_impl_trait_in_trait_bounds`. That's because the RPITIT projections are normalized to opaques during wfcheck. Second, fix RPITIT's param-envs by not adding the projection predicates that we install on trait methods to make default RPITITs work -- I left a comment why.

3. Also, just a small drive-by for `rustc_on_unimplemented`. Not sure if it affects any tests, but can't hurt.

As with other RISC-V targets, the LLVM target should use riscv64-\*, not riscv64*gc*-\*.

30331828cb Use poison instead of undef
In cases where it is legal, we should prefer poison values over
undef values.

This replaces undef with poison for aggregate construction and
for uninhabited types. There are more places where we can likely
use poison, but I wanted to stay conservative to start with.

In particular the aggregate case is important for newer LLVM
versions, which are not able to handle an undef base value during
early optimization due to poison-propagation concerns.

1203e0866e Auto merge of #106824 - m-ou-se:format-args-flatten, r=oli-obk
Flatten/inline format_args!() and (string and int) literal arguments into format_args!()

Implements https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/78356

Gated behind `-Zflatten-format-args=yes`.

Part of #99012

This change inlines string literals, integer literals and nested format_args!() into format_args!() during ast lowering, making all of the following pairs result in equivalent hir:

```rust
println!("Hello, {}!", "World");
println!("Hello, World!");
```

```rust
println!("[info] {}", format_args!("error"));
println!("[info] error");
```

```rust
println!("[{}] {}", status, format_args!("error: {}", msg));
println!("[{}] error: {}", status, msg);
```

```rust
println!("{} + {} = {}", 1, 2, 1 + 2);
println!("1 + 2 = {}", 1 + 2);
```

And so on.

This is useful for macros. E.g. a `log::info!()` macro could just pass the tokens from the user directly into a `format_args!()` that gets efficiently flattened/inlined into a `format_args!("info: {}")`.

It also means that `dbg!(x)` will have its file, line, and expression name inlined:

```rust
eprintln!("[{}:{}] {} = {:#?}", file!(), line!(), stringify!(x), x); // before
eprintln!("[example.rs:1] x = {:#?}", x); // after
```

Which can be nice in some cases, but also means a lot more unique static strings than before if dbg!() is used a lot.

make `define_opaque_types` fully explicit

based on the idea of #108389. Moved `define_opaque_types` into the actual operations, e.g. `eq`, instead of `infcx.at` because normalization doesn't use `define_opaque_types` and even creates it's own `At` with a different `define_opaque_types` internally.

Somewhat surprisingly, coherence actually relies on `DefineOpaqueTypes::Yes` for soundness which was revealed because I've incorrectly used `DefineOpaqueTypes::No` in `equate_impl_headers`. It feels concerning that even though this is the case, we still sometimes use `DefineOpaqueTypes::No` in coherence. I did not look into this as part of this PR as it is purely changing the structure of the code without changing behavior in any way.

Implement checked Shl/Shr at MIR building.

This does not require any special handling by codegen backends,
as the overflow behaviour is entirely determined by the rhs (shift amount).

This allows MIR ConstProp to remove the overflow check for constant shifts.

~There is an existing different behaviour between cg_llvm and cg_clif (cc `@bjorn3).`
I took cg_llvm's one as reference: overflow if `rhs < 0 || rhs > number_of_bits_in_lhs_ty`.~

EDIT: `cg_llvm` and `cg_clif` implement the overflow check differently. This PR uses `cg_llvm`'s implementation based on a `BitAnd` instead of `cg_clif`'s one based on an unsigned comparison.

Use an `ObligationCtxt` instead of `normalize_erasing_regions` + `DeepRejectCtxt`. Use `unused_generic_params` from crate metadata

Due to the way that `separate_provide_extern` interacted with the implementation of `<ty::InstanceDef<'tcx> as Key>::query_crate_is_local`, we actually never hit the foreign provider for `unused_generic_params`.

Additionally, since the *local* provider of `unused_generic_params` calls `should_polymorphize`, which always returns false if the def-id is foreign, this means that we never actually polymorphize monomorphic instances originating from foreign crates.

We don't actually encode `unused_generic_params` for items where all generics are used, so I had to tweak the foreign provider to fall back to `ty::UnusedGenericParams::new_all_used()` to avoid more ICEs when the above bugs were fixed.

Ensure `ptr::read` gets all the same LLVM `load` metadata that dereferencing does

I was looking into `array::IntoIter` optimization, and noticed that it wasn't annotating the loads with `noundef` for simple things like `array::IntoIter<i32, N>`. Trying to narrow it down, it seems that was because `MaybeUninit::assume_init_read` isn't marking the load as initialized (<https://rust.godbolt.org/z/Mxd8TPTnv>), which is unfortunate since that's basically its reason to exist.

The root cause is that `ptr::read` is currently implemented via the *untyped* `copy_nonoverlapping`, and thus the `load` doesn't get any type-aware metadata: no `noundef`, no `!range`. This PR solves that by lowering `ptr::read(p)` to `copy *p` in MIR, for which the backends already do the right thing.

Fortuitiously, this also improves the IR we give to LLVM for things like `mem::replace`, and fixes a couple of long-standing bugs where `ptr::read` on `Copy` types was worse than `*`ing them.

Emit diagnostic when calling methods on the unit type in method chains

Fixes #104204.

What this PR does: If a method is not found somewhere in a call chain, we check if we called earlier a method with signature `(&mut T, ...) -> ()`. If this is the case then we emit a diagnostic message.

For example given input:

```
vec![1, 2, 3].into_iter().collect::<Vec<i32>>().sort_by_key(|i| i).sort();
```

the current output is:
```
error[E0599]: no method named `sort` found for unit type `()` in the current scope
 --> hello.rs:3:72
  |
3 |     vec![1, 2, 3].into_iter().collect::<Vec<i32>>().sort_by_key(|i| i).sort();
  |                                                                        ^^^^ method not found in `()`
```

after this PR it will be:
```
error[E0599]: no method named `sort` found for unit type `()` in the current scope
 --> ./hello.rs:3:72
  |
3 |     vec![1, 2, 3].into_iter().collect::<Vec<i32>>().sort_by_key(|i| i).sort();
  |                                                                        ^^^^ method not found in `()`
  |
note: method `sort_by_key` modifies its receiver in-place, it is not meant to be used in method chains.
 --> ./hello.rs:3:53
  |
3 |     vec![1, 2, 3].into_iter().collect::<Vec<i32>>().sort_by_key(|i| i).sort();
Properly allow macro expanded `format_args` invocations to uses captures
Originally, this was kinda half-allowed. There were some primitive checks in place that looked at the span to see whether the input was likely a literal. These "source literal" checks are needed because the spans created during `format_args` parsing only make sense when it is indeed a literal that was written in the source code directly.
This is orthogonal to the restriction that the first argument must be a "direct literal", not being exanpanded from macros. This restriction was imposed by [RFC 2795] on the basis of being too confusing. But this was only concerned with the argument of the invocation being a literal, not whether it was a source literal (maybe in spirit it meant it being a source literal, this is not clear to me).
Since the original check only really cared about source literals (which is good enough to deny the `format_args!(concat!())` example), macros expanding to `format_args` invocations were able to use implicit captures if they spanned the string in a way that lead back to a source string.
The "source literal" checks were not strict enough and caused ICEs in certain cases (see #106191). So I tightened it up in #106195 to really only work if it's a direct source literal.
This caused the `indoc` crate to break. `indoc` transformed the source literal by removing whitespace, which made it not a "source literal" anymore (which is required to fix the ICE). But since `indoc` spanned the literal in ways that made the old check think that it's a literal, it was able to use implicit captures (which is useful and nice for the users of `indoc`).
This commit properly seperates the previously introduced concepts of "source literal" and "direct literal" and therefore allows `indoc` invocations, which don't create "source literals" to use implicit captures again.
This now makes sure that the literal is actually there as we see it so
that we will not run into ICEs on weird literal transformations.
Remove `identity_future` indirection
This was previously needed because the indirection used to hide some unexplained lifetime errors, which it turned out were related to the `min_choice` algorithm.
Removing the indirection also solves a couple of cycle errors, large moves and makes async blocks support the `#[track_caller]`annotation.
Remove `box_syntax`
r? `@Nilstrieb`
This removes the feature `box_syntax`, which allows the use of `box <expr>` to create a Box, and finalises removing use of the feature from the compiler. `box_patterns` (allowing the use of `box <pat>` in a pattern) is unaffected.
It also removes `ast::ExprKind::Box` - the only way to create a 'box' expression now is with the rustc-internal `#[rustc_box]` attribute.
As a temporary measure to help users move away, `box <expr>` now parses the inner expression, and emits a `MachineApplicable` lint to replace it with `Box::new`
Strengthen state tracking in const-prop
Some/many of the changes are replicated between both the const-prop lint and the const-prop optimization.
Behaviour changes:
- const-prop opt does not give a span to propagated values. This was useless as that span's primary purpose is to diagnose evaluation failure in codegen.
- we remove the `OnlyPropagateInto` mode. It was only used for function arguments, which are better modeled by a write before entry.
- the tracking of assignments and discriminants make clearer that we do nothing in `NoPropagation` mode or on indirect places.
Ensure value is on the on-disk cache before returning from `ensure()`.
The current logic for `ensure()` a query just checks that the node is green in the dependency graph.
However, a lot of places use `ensure()` to prevent the query from being called later. This is the case before stealing a query result.
If the query is actually green but the value is not available in the on-disk cache, `ensure` would return, but a subsequent call to the full query would run the code, and attempt to read from a stolen value.
This PR conforms the query system to the usage by checking whether the queried value is loadable from disk before returning.
Sadly, I can't manage to craft a proper test...
Should fix all instances of "attempted to read from stolen value".
tidy: enforce comment blocks to have an even number of backticks
After PR #108694, most unmatched backticks in `compiler/` comments have been eliminated. This PR adds a tidy lint to ensure no new unmatched backticks are added, and either addresses the lint in the remaining instances it found, or allows it.
Very often, backtick containing sections wrap around lines, for example:
```Rust
// This function takes a tuple `(Vec<String>,
// Box<[u8]>)` and transforms it into `Vec<u8>`.
```
The lint is implemented to work on top of blocks, counting each line with a `//` into a block, and counting if there are an odd or even number of backticks in the entire block, instead of looking at just a single line.
Simplify message paths
This makes it easier to open the messages file. Right now I have to first click on the `locales` dir to open it, and then on the `en-US.ftl` file. `Cargo.toml` and `build.rs` files are also in the top level, and I think there should not be more than one file, so a directory isn't really needed. The [chosen strategy for pontoon adoption](https://rust-lang.zulipchat.com/#narrow/stream/336883-i18n/topic/pontoon.20and.20next.20steps) is out of tree. Even if this descision is changed in the future, the `messages.ftl` approach is also compatible with non-english translations living in-tree, as long as the non-english translations don't live in the `compiler/rustc_foo/` directories but in different ones. That would also be helpful for grepability purposes.
The commit was the result of automated changes:
```
for p in compiler/rustc_*; do mv $p/locales/en-US.ftl $p/messages.ftl; rmdir $p/locales; done

b2c717fa33 MaybeUninit::assume_init_read should have noundef load metadata
I was looking into `array::IntoIter` optimization, and noticed that it wasn't annotating the loads with `noundef` for simple things like `array::IntoIter<i32, N>`.

Turned out to be a more general problem as `MaybeUninit::assume_init_read` isn't marking the load as initialized (<https://rust.godbolt.org/z/Mxd8TPTnv>), which is unfortunate since that's basically its reason to exist.

This PR lowers `ptr::read(p)` to `copy *p` in MIR, which fortuitiously also improves the IR we give to LLVM for things like `mem::replace`.

Rollup merge of #104363 - WaffleLapkin:bonk_box_new, r=Nilstrieb
Make `unused_allocation` lint against `Box::new` too

Previously it only linted against `box` syntax, which likely won't ever be stabilized, which is pretty useless. Even now I'm not sure if it's a meaningful lint, but it's at least something 🤷

This means that code like the following will be linted against:
```rust
Box::new([1, 2, 3]).len();
f(&Box::new(1)); // where f : &i32 -> ()
```
The lint works by checking if a `Box::new` (or `box`) expression has an a borrow adjustment, meaning that the code that first stores the box in a variable won't be linted against:
```rust
let boxed = Box::new([1, 2, 3]); // no lint
boxed.len();
```

Add more license annotations

This PR updates the `.reuse/dep5` file to include more accurate licensing data for everything in the repository (*excluding* submodules and dependencies). Some decisions were made in this PR:

* The standard copyright attribution for files maintained by us is "The Rust Project Developers (see https://thanks.rust-lang.org)", to avoid having to maintain an in-tree `AUTHORS` file.
* For files that have specific licensing terms, we added the terms to the `.reuse/dep5` rather than adding SPDX comments in the files themselves.
* REUSE picks up any comment/text line with `Copyright` on it, so I had to sprinkle around `REUSE-IgnoreStart` and `REUSE-IgnoreEnd` comments.

The rendered `COPYRIGHT` file is available at https://gist.github.com/pietroalbini/efb81103f69596d39758114f3f6a8688.

Add `--no-undefined-version` link flag and fix associated breakage

LLVM upstream sets `--no-undefined-version` by default in lld: https://reviews.llvm.org/D135402.

Due to a bug in how version scripts are generated, this breaks the `dylib` output type for most crates. See https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/105967#issuecomment-1428671533 for details.

This PR adds the flag to gcc flavor linkers in anticipation of this LLVM change rolling in, and patches `rustc` to not attempt to export `__rust_*` allocator symbols when they weren't generated.

Relax ordering rules for `asm!` operands

The `asm!` and `global_asm!` macros require their operands to appear strictly in the following order:
- Template strings
- Positional operands
- Named operands
- Explicit register operands
- `clobber_abi`
- `options`

This is overly strict and can be inconvienent when building complex `asm!` statements with macros. This PR relaxes the ordering requirements as follows:
- Template strings must still come before all other operands.
- Positional operands must still come before named and explicit register operands.
- Named and explicit register operands can be freely mixed.
- `options` and `clobber_abi` can appear in any position after the template strings.

Don't even try to combine consts with incompatible types

~I left a more detailed explanation for why this fixes this issue in the UI test, but in general, we should not try to unify const infer vars and rigid consts if they have incompatible types. That's because we don't want something like a `ConstArgHasType` predicate to suddenly go from passing to failing, or vice versa, due to a shallow resolve.~

1. Use the `type_of` for a parameter in `try_eval_lit_or_param`, instead of the "expected" type from a `WithOptConstParam` def id.
2. Don't combine consts that have incompatible types.

We never supported solving `for<'a> fn(&'a ()): Fn(&'a ())` -- I tried to add that support in #104929, but iirc `@lcnr` wanted to support this more generally by eagerly instantiating trait predicate binders with placeholders. That never happened due to blockers in the old solver, but we probably shouldn't ICE in any case.

This PR introduces a new `PlaceMention` statement dedicated to matches that neither introduce bindings nor ascribe types. Without this, all traces of the match would vanish from MIR, making it impossible to diagnose unsafety or use in #101500.

This allows to mark `let _ = <unsafe union access or dereference>` as requiring an unsafe block.

Rollup merge of #108839 - compiler-errors:canonicalize-the-root-var, r=lcnr
Canonicalize root var when making response from new solver

During trait solving, if we equate two inference variables `?0` and `?1` but don't equate them with any rigid types, then `InferCtxt::probe_ty_var` will return `Err` for both of these. The canonicalizer code will then canonicalize the variables independently(!), and the response will not reflect the fact that these two variables have been made equal.

This hinders inference and I also don't think it's sound? I haven't thought too much about it past that, so let's talk about it.

Rollup merge of #108754 - compiler-errors:retry, r=oli-obk
Retry `pred_known_to_hold_modulo_regions` with fulfillment if ambiguous

Fixes #108721

The problem here is that when we're checking `is_sized_raw` during codegen on some type that has a lot of opaques in it, something emits several nested obligations that are individually ambiguous, but when processed together in a loop then apply modulo regions. Since the `evaluate_predicates_recursively` inner loop doesn't process predicates until they stop changing, we return `EvaluatedToAmbig`, which makes the sized check return false incorrectly. See:

f15f0ea739/compiler/rustc_trait_selection/src/traits/select/mod.rs (L596-L606)

... Compared to the analogous loop in the new solver:

f15f0ea739/compiler/rustc_trait_selection/src/solve/mod.rs (L481-L512)

To fix this, if we get ambiguous during `pred_known_to_hold_modulo_regions`, just retry the obligation in a fulfillment context.

--

Unfortunately... I don't have a test for this. I've only tested this locally. Pending minimization :/

Suppress spurious errors from the `Copy` impl validity check when fields have bad types *post*-normalization, instead of just pre-normalization.

----

The const-generics test regressed recently due to #107965, cc `````@BoxyUwU.`````
 * I think it's because `[_; 0u32]: Copy` now fails to hold because a nested obligation `ConstArgHasType(0u32, usize)` fails.
 * It's interesting that `[const_error]` shows up in the type only after normalization, though, but I'm pretty sure that it's due to the evaluate call that happens when normalizing unevaluated consts.

StableMIR: Proof-of-concept implementation + test

This PR is part of the [project Stable MIR](https://github.com/rust-lang/project-stable-mir). The PR deletes old re-exports from rustc_smir and introduces a proof-of-concept implementation for APIs to retrieve crate information.

The implementation follows the [design described here](https://hackmd.io/XhnYHKKuR6-LChhobvlT-g?view), but instead of using separate crates for the implementation, it uses separate modules inside `rustc_smir`.

The API introduced at this point should be seen just as an example on how we are planning to structure the communication between tools and the compiler.

I have not explored yet what should be the right granularity, the best starting point for users, neither the best way to implement it.

Do not implement HashStable for HashSet (MCP 533)

This PR removes all occurrences of `HashSet` in query results, replacing it either with `FxIndexSet` or with `UnordSet`, and then removes the `HashStable` implementation of `HashSet`. This is part of implementing [MCP 533](https://github.com/rust-lang/compiler-team/issues/533), that is, removing the `HashStable` implementations of all collection types with unstable iteration order.

The changes are mostly mechanical. The only place where additional sorting is happening is in Miri's override implementation of the `exported_symbols` query.

9570023ce1 Only compute the crate hash when necessary.
The crate hash is needed:
- if debug assertions are enabled, or
- if incr. comp. is enabled, or
- if metadata is being generated, or
- if `-C instrumentation-coverage` is enabled.

This commit avoids computing the crate hash when these conditions are
all false, such as when doing a release build of a binary crate.

It uses `Option` to store the hashes when needed, rather than
computing them on demand, because some of them are needed in multiple
places and computing them on demand would make compilation slower.

The commit also removes `Owner::hash_without_bodies`. There is no
benefit to pre-computing that one, it can just be done in the normal
fashion.

As of #108203, we install extra projection predicates into the param-env of a default trait method when it has return-position `impl Trait` (or is async).

The implementation didn't account for the fact that it's walking into and out of binders, so we just need to shift all the debruijn indices accordingly when constructing the projection predicates.

Add `round_ties_even` to `f32` and `f64`

Tracking issue: #96710

Redux of #82273. See also #55107

Adds a new method, `round_ties_even`, to `f32` and `f64`, that rounds the float to the nearest integer , rounding halfway cases to the number with an even least significant bit. Uses the `roundeven` LLVM intrinsic to do this.

Of the five IEEE 754 rounding modes, this is the only one that doesn't already have a round-to-integer function exposed by Rust (others are `round`, `floor`, `ceil`, and `trunc`). Ties-to-even is also the rounding mode used for int-to-float and float-to-float `as` casts, as well as float arithmentic operations. So not having an explicit rounding method for it seems like an oversight.

Bikeshed: this PR currently uses `round_ties_even` for the name of the method. But maybe `round_ties_to_even` is better, or `round_even`, or `round_to_even`?

Check for free regions in MIR validation

This turns https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/108720 into a MIR validation failure that will reproduce without debug-assertions enabled.

Allow using `bool` instead of `Option<()>` in diagnostics

~~Disallow the unit type for `#[help]`, `#[note]` etc, instead using `bool` to express optional annotations without a span which I believe is more intuitive.~~

~~Test output ordering has changed in a few places, where a field was of type `()` and the annotation has been moved to the struct itself. If any of these changes are an issue, this can be restricted to allowing specifically `()`, and not `Option<()>`~~

~~Actual changes here: https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/108402/files#diff-815b1d8debfc564112bd51093791d7c3f2ee288a37a8f5c0e89c11d1f609b4c0~~

Allows using `bool` in derive diagnostics to indicate an optional subdiagnostic without a span, where previously `Option<()>` had to be used
