This adds the following functions:
* `Option<T>::as_slice(&self) -> &[T]`
* `Option<T>::as_slice_mut(&mut self) -> &[T]`
The `as_slice` and `as_slice_mut` functions benefit from an
optimization that makes them completely branch-free.
Note that the optimization's soundness hinges on the fact that either
the niche optimization makes the offset of the `Some(_)` contents zero
or the mempory layout of `Option<T>` is equal to that of
`Option<MaybeUninit<T>>`.
Inline `Poll` methods
With `opt-level="z"`, the `Poll::map*` methods are sometimes not inlined (see <https://godbolt.org/z/ca5ajKTEK>). This PR adds `#[inline]` to these methods. I have a project that can benefit from this change, but do we want to enable this behavior universally?

Allows for safe functions to be marked with `#[target_feature]` attributes.
Functions marked with `#[target_feature]` are generally considered as unsafe functions: they are unsafe to call, cannot be assigned to safe function pointers, and don't implement the `Fn*` traits.

Closures defined inside functions marked with `#[target_feature]` inherit the target features of their parent function. They can still be assigned to safe function pointers and implement the appropriate `Fn*` traits.

Move IpAddr, SocketAddr and V4+V6 related types to `core`
Implements RFC https://github.com/rust-lang/rfcs/pull/2832. The RFC has completed FCP with disposition merge, but is not yet merged.
Moves IP types to `core` as specified in the RFC.
The full list of moved types is: `IpAddr`, `Ipv4Addr`, `Ipv6Addr`, `SocketAddr`, `SocketAddrV4`, `SocketAddrV6`, `Ipv6MulticastScope` and `AddrParseError`.
Doing this move was one of the main driving arguments behind #78802.
Remove `from` lang item
It was probably a leftover from the old `?` desugaring but anyways, it's unused now except for clippy, which can just use a diagnostics item.
Fix `VecDeque::shrink_to` and add tests.

RustyHermit is a tier 3 platform and publishes a new kernel interface. The new version supports a common BSD socket layer. By supporting this interface, the implementation of `std` can be harmonized to other operating systems. In `sys_common/mod.rs` we remove only a special case for RustyHermit. All changes are done in the RustyHermit specific directories.
To realize this socket layer, the handling of file descriptors is also harmonized to other operating systems.
Move some std tests from `tests/ui-fulldeps` into `library/std`
This allows them to be tested normally along with other `./x test std` tests. Moving `rename_directory` is simple enough but `create_dir_all_bare` needed to be an std integration test.
Additionally, some tests that I couldn't move atm have instead been placed in an `std` subdirectory. These tests include ones that do fun things with processes or that intentionally abort the test process.

As reported in sunfishcode/is-terminal#18, there are situations where `GetFileInformationByHandleEx` can write a file name length that is longer than the provided buffer. To avoid deferencing memory past the end of the buffer, use a bounds-checked function to form a slice to the buffer and handle the out-of-bounds case.
This ports the fix from sunfishcode/is-terminal#19 to std's `is_terminal` implementation.
std: time: Avoid to use "was created" in elapsed() description
".. since this instant was created" is inaccurate and misleading, consider the following case:

implement const iterator using `rustc_do_not_const_check`
Previous experiment: #102225.
Explanation: rather than making all default methods work under `const` all at once, this uses `rustc_do_not_const_check` as a workaround to "trick" the compiler to not run any checks on those other default methods. Any const implementations are only required to implement the `next` method. Any actual calls to the trait methods other than `next` will either error in compile time (at CTFE runs), or run the methods correctly if they do not have any non-const operations. This is extremely easy to maintain, remove, or improve.

Windows: Quote more batch file arguments
Make sure to always quote batch file arguments that contain command prompt special characters.
Additionally add `/d` command line parameter to disable any autorun scripts that may change the way variable expansion works. This makes it more consistent across systems and may help avoid surprises.
## Background Info
[`CreateProcess`](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/api/processthreadsapi/nf-processthreadsapi-createprocessw) with the `lpApplicationName` set can only be used to run `.exe` files and not script files such as `.bat`. However, for historical reasons, we do have special handling so that `.bat` files will be correctly run with `cmd.exe` as the application.
In Windows, command line arguments are passed as a single string (not an array). Applications can parse this string however they like but most follow the standard MSVC C/C++ convention. But `cmd.exe` uses different argument parsing rules to other Windows programs (because it emulates old DOS). This PR aims to help smooth over some of the differences.

Document that CStr::as_ptr returns a type alias
Rustdoc resolves type aliases too eagerly #15823 which makes the [std re-export](https://doc.rust-lang.org/stable/std/ffi/struct.CStr.html#method.as_ptr) of `CStr::as_ptr` show `i8` instead of `c_char`. To work around this I've added info about `c_char` in the method's description.
BTW, I've also added a comment to what-not-to-do example in case someone copypasted it without reading the surrounding text.
Implement more methods for `vec_deque::IntoIter`
This implements a couple `Iterator` methods on `vec_deque::IntoIter` (`(try_)fold`, `(try_)rfold` `advance_(back_)by`, `next_chunk`, `count` and `last`) to allow these to be more efficient than their default implementations, also allowing many other `Iterator` methods that use these under the hood to take advantage of these manual implementations. `vec::IntoIter` has similar implementations for many of these methods. This PR does not yet implement `TrustedRandomAccess` and friends, as I'm not very familiar with the required safety guarantees.

Optimize `LazyLock` size
The initialization function was unnecessarily stored separately from the data to be initialized. Since both cannot exist at the same time, a `union` can be used, with the `Once` acting as discriminant. Demonstrate I/O in File examples
I've noticed that some Rust novices unnecessarily reinvent `std::fs::{read,write}`, presumably because they search for equivalents of `fopen` + `fwrite`. I've added links to `std::fs::{read,write}` in the docs.
The `File` examples were only showing how to open a file, but not how to use the opened handle, unnecessarily leaving out the next step. I've added a variety of different uses of file handles to their examples in docs.

Added another error to be processed in fallback
This pull request addresses the problem of Rust not being able to read file/directory metadata because the current user doesn't have permission to read the file and are thus inaccessible.
One particular example is `System Volume Information`. But any example can be made by having a file/directory, which the current user can't access even though the system does allow to view the metadata, which is handled by the fallback.
The fallback exists to get the metadata but it was limited to one error type. Having added ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED per Chris Denton's suggestion, file/directory properties are now properly read.

Improve the `array::map` codegen
The `map` method on arrays [is documented as sometimes performing poorly](https://doc.rust-lang.org/std/primitive.array.html#note-on-performance-and-stack-usage), and after [a question on URLO](https://users.rust-lang.org/t/try-trait-residual-o-trait-and-try-collect-into-array/88510?u=scottmcm) prompted me to take another look at the core [`try_collect_into_array`](7c46fb2111/library/core/src/array/mod.rs (L865-L912)) function, I had some ideas that ended up working better than I'd expected.
There's three main ideas in here, split over three commits:
1. Don't use `array::IntoIter` when we can avoid it, since that seems to not get SRoA'd, meaning that every step writes things like loop counters into the stack unnecessarily
2. Don't return arrays in `Result`s unnecessarily, as that doesn't seem to optimize away even with `unwrap_unchecked` (perhaps because it needs to get moved into a new LLVM type to account for the discriminant)
3. Don't distract LLVM with all the `Option` dances when we know for sure we have enough items (like in `map` and `zip`). This one's a larger commit as to do it I ended up adding a new `pub(crate)` trait, but hopefully those changes are still straight-forward.
(No libs-api changes; everything should be completely implementation-detail-internal.)
It's still not completely fixed -- I think it needs pcwalton's `memcpy` optimizations still (#103830) to get further -- but this seems to go much better than before. And the remaining `memcpy`s are just `transmute`-equivalent (`[T; N] -> ManuallyDrop<[T; N]>` and `[MaybeUninit<T>; N] -> [T; N]`), so hopefully those will be easier to remove with LLVM16 than the previous subobject copies 🤞

Since there were no previous benchmarks for `array::map`, and it is known to have mediocre/poor performance, add some simple benchmarks. These benchmarks vary the length of the array and size of each item.
avoid mixing accesses of ptrs derived from a mutable ref and parent ptrs
``@Vanille-N`` is working on a successor for Stacked Borrows. It will mostly accept strictly more code than Stacked Borrows did, with one exception: the following pattern no longer works.

This worked in Stacked Borrows kind of by accident: when doing the "parent read", under SB we Disable `mref`, but the raw ptrs derived from it remain usable. The fact that we can still use the "children" of a reference that is no longer usable is quite nasty and leads to some undesirable effects (in particular it is the major blocker for resolving https://github.com/rust-lang/unsafe-code-guidelines/issues/257). So in Tree Borrows we no longer do that; instead, reading from `root` makes `mref` and all its children read-only.
Due to other improvements in Tree Borrows, the entire Miri test suite still passes with this new behavior, and even the entire libcore and liballoc test suite, except for these 2 cases this PR fixes. Both of these involve code where the programmer wrote `&mut` but then used pointers derived from that reference in ways that alias with the parent pointer, which arguably is violating uniqueness. They are fixed by properly using raw pointers throughout.
Document `PointerLike`
I forgot to document this, and even though it's currently more of an implementation detail, the old doc was kinda embarrassing 😅
Use associated items of `char` instead of freestanding items in `core::char`
The associated functions and constants on `char` have been stable since 1.52 and the freestanding items have soft-deprecated since 1.62 (https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/95566). This PR ~~marks them as "deprecated in future", similar to the integer and floating point modules (`core::{i32, f32}` etc)~~ replaces all uses of `core::char::*` with `char::*` to prepare for future deprecation of `core::char::*`.
Speedup heapsort by 1.5x by making it branchless
`slice::sort_unstable` will fall back to heapsort if it repeatedly fails to find a good pivot. By making the core child update code branchless it is much faster. On Zen3 sorting 10k `u64` and forcing the sort to pick heapsort, results in:

simplify layout calculations in rawvec
The use of `Layout::array` was introduced in #83706 which lead to a [perf regression](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/83706#issuecomment-1048377719).
This PR basically reverts that change since rust currently only supports stride == size types, but to be on the safe side it leaves a const-assert there to make sure this gets caught if those assumptions ever change.
Stop at the first `NULL` argument when iterating `argv`
Some C commandline parsers (e.g. GLib and Qt) are replacing already handled arguments in `argv` with `NULL` and move them to the end. That means that `argc` might be bigger than the actual number of non-`NULL` pointers in `argv` at this point.
To handle this we simply stop iterating at the first `NULL` argument.
`argv` is also guaranteed to be `NULL`-terminated so any non-`NULL` arguments after the first `NULL` can safely be ignored.

Use `__wasilibc_get_environ()` to read the environment variable list
from wasi-libc instead of using `environ`. `environ` is a global
variable which effectively requires wasi-libc to initialize the
environment variables eagerly, and `__wasilibc_get_environ()` is
specifically designed to be an alternative that lets wasi-libc
intiailize its environment variables lazily.
This should have the side effect of fixing at least some of the cases
of #107635.
Stabilize feature `cstr_from_bytes_until_nul`
This PR seeks to stabilize `cstr_from_bytes_until_nul`.
Partially addresses #95027
This function has only been on nightly for about 10 months, but I think it is simple enough that there isn't harm discussing stabilization. It has also had at least a handful of mentions on both the user forum and the discord, so it seems like it's already in use or at least known.
This needs FCP still.
Comment on potential discussion points:
- eventual conversion of `CStr` to be a single thin pointer: this function will still be useful to provide a safe way to create a `CStr` after this change.
- should this return a length too, to address concerns about the `CStr` change? I don't see it as being particularly useful, and it seems less ergonomic (i.e. returning `Result<(&CStr, usize), FromBytesUntilNulError>`). I think users that also need this length without the additional `strlen` call are likely better off using a combination of other methods, but this is up for discussion
- `CString::from_vec_until_nul`: this is also useful, but it doesn't even have a nightly implementation merged yet. I propose feature gating that separately, as opposed to blocking this `CStr` implementation on that
Possible alternatives:
A user can use `from_bytes_with_nul` on a slice up to `my_slice[..my_slice.iter().find(|c| c == 0).unwrap()]`. However; that is significantly less ergonomic, and is a bit more work for the compiler to optimize compared the direct `memchr` call that this wraps.

The implementation is split into 2 commits:
- The first changes the internal insertion functions to return a handle to the newly inserted element. The lifetimes involved are a bit hairy since we need a mutable handle to both the `BTreeMap` itself (which holds the root) and the nodes allocated in memory. I have tested that this passes the standard library testsuite under miri.
- The second commit implements the cursor API itself. This is more straightforward to follow but still involves some unsafe code to deal with simultaneous mutable borrows of the tree root and the node that is currently being iterated.
Rename `PointerSized` to `PointerLike`
The old name was unnecessarily vague. This PR renames a nightly language feature that I added, so I don't think it needs any additional approval, though anyone can feel free to speak up if you dislike the rename.
It's still unsatisfying that we don't the user which of {size, alignment} is wrong, but this trait really is just a stepping stone for a more generalized mechanism to create `dyn*`, just meant for nightly testing, so I don't think it really deserves additional diagnostic machinery for now.

Fixing confusion between mod and remainder
Like many programming languages, rust too confuses remainder and modulus. The `%` operator and the associated `Rem` trait is (as the trait name suggests) the remainder, but since most people are linguistically more familiar with the modulus the documentation sometimes claims otherwise. This PR tries to fix this problem in rustc.
Replace unwrap with ? in TcpListener doc
The example in TcpListener doc returns `std::io::Result<()>` but the code inside the function uses `unwrap()` instead of `?`.
Bump bootstrap compiler to 1.68
This also changes our stage0.json to include the rustc component for the rustfmt pinned nightly toolchain, which is currently necessary due to rustfmt dynamically linking to that toolchain's librustc_driver and libstd.

Remove `GenFuture` from core
The handling of async constructs in the compiler does not rely on `GenFuture` anymore since `1.67`, so this code can now be removed from `core`.
Make Vec::clone_from and slice::clone_into share the same code
In the past, `Vec::clone_from` was implemented using `slice::clone_into`. The code from `clone_into` was later duplicated into `clone_from` in 8725e4c337, which is the commit that adds custom allocator support to Vec. Presumably this was done because the `slice::clone_into` method only works for vecs with the default allocator so it would have the wrong type to clone into `Vec<T, A>`.
Later on in 361398009b the code for the two methods diverged because the `Vec::clone_from` version gained a specialization to optimize the case when T is Copy. In order to reduce code duplication and make them both be able to take advantage of this specialization, this PR moves the specialization into the slice module and makes vec use it again.
bootstrap: cleanup the list of extra check cfgs
This PR performs some cleanups on the `EXTRA_CHECK_CFGS` list in bootstrap.
- `target_os=watchos`: no longer relevant because there are now proper targets `*-apple-watchos`
- `target_arch=nvptx64`: target `nvptx64-nvidia-cuda` makes it useless
- `target_arch=le32`: target was removed (https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/45041)
- `release`: was removed from rustfmt (https://github.com/rust-lang/rustfmt/pull/5375 and https://github.com/rust-lang/rustfmt/pull/5449)
- `dont_compile_me`: was removed from stdarch (https://github.com/rust-lang/stdarch/pull/1308)
Also made some external cfg exception mode clear and only activated for rustc and rustc tools (as to not have the Standard Library unintentionally depend on them).
Don't re-export private/unstable ArgumentV1 from `alloc`.
The `alloc::fmt::ArgumentV1` re-export was marked as `#[stable]` even though the original `core::fmt::ArgumentV1` is `#[unstable]` (and `#[doc(hidden)]`).

Rather than needing to do things like #105840 for `signum` too, might as well just implement that method using `Ord`, since it's doing the same "I need `-1`/`0`/`+1`" behaviour that `cmp` is already doing.

library/std/sys_common: Define MIN_ALIGN for m68k-unknown-linux-gnu
This PR adds the missing definition of MIN_ALIGN for the m68k-unknown-linux target.
Disable `linux_ext` in wasm32 and fortanix rustdoc builds.
The `std::os::unix` module is stubbed out when building docs for these target platforms. The introduction of Linux-specific extension traits caused `std::os::net` to depend on sub-modules of `std::os::unix`, which broke rustdoc for the `wasm32-unknown-unknown` target.
Adding an additional `#[cfg]` guard solves that rustdoc failure by not declaring `linux_ext` on targets with a stubbed `std::os::unix`.

Now that the clone_into implementation is moved out into a specializable
trait anyway we might as well use that to share the code between the two

The implementation for the ToOwned::clone_into method on [T] is a copy
of the code for vec::clone_from. In 361398009b the code for
vec::clone_from gained a specialization for when T is Copy. This commit
copies that specialization over to the clone_into implementation.
Remove `ControlFlow::{BREAK, CONTINUE}`

Stabilize the const_socketaddr feature
Stabilizes `#![feature(const_socketaddr)]`. Tracking issue: #82485Closes#82485
This has been unstably const for over a year now. And the code change simplifying the constness of the `new` constructors has been in stable Rust since 1.64 (a bit over a full release cycle). I'm not aware of any blockers to this stabilization.
Libs-API decided to remove these in #102697.

However, none of those functions and macros actually depend on 8-bit width and they are needed for all atomic widths (16-bit, 32-bit, 64-bit etc.). Some targets might not support 8-bit atomics (i.e. BPF, if we would enable atomic CAS for it).
This change fixes that by removing the `"8"` argument from annotations, which results in accepting the whole variety of widths.

Move format_args!() into AST (and expand it during AST lowering)

This moves FormatArgs from rustc_builtin_macros to rustc_ast_lowering. For now, the end result is the same. But this allows for future changes to do smarter things with format_args!(). It also allows Clippy to directly access the ast::FormatArgs, making things a lot easier.
This change turns the format args types into lang items. The builtin macro used to refer to them by their path. After this change, the path is no longer relevant, making it easier to make changes in `core`.
This updates clippy to use the new language items, but this doesn't yet make clippy use the ast::FormatArgs structure that's now available. That should be done after this is merged.
Avoid __cxa_thread_atexit_impl on Emscripten

The TL;DR is that weak linkage causes LLVM to produce broken Wasm, presumably due to pointer mismatch. The code is casting a void pointer to a function pointer with specific signature, but Wasm is very strict about function pointer compatibility, so the resulting code is invalid.
Ideally LLVM should catch this earlier in the process rather than emit invalid Wasm, but it currently doesn't and this is an easy and valid fix, given that Emcripten doesn't have `__cxa_thread_atexit_impl` these days anyway.
Unfortunately, I can't add a regression test as even after looking into this issue for a long time, I couldn't reproduce it with any minimal Rust example, only with extracted LLVM IR or on a large project involving Rust + C++.
impl DispatchFromDyn for Cell and UnsafeCell
After some fruitful discussion on [Internals](https://internals.rust-lang.org/t/impl-dispatchfromdyn-for-cell-2/16520) here's my first PR to rust-lang/rust 🎉
Please let me know if there's something I missed.
This adds `DispatchFromDyn` impls for `Cell`, `UnsafeCell` and `SyncUnsafeCell`.
An existing test is also expanded to test the `Cell` impl (which requires the `UnsafeCell` impl)
The different `RefCell` types can not implement `DispatchFromDyn` since they have more than one (non ZST) field.

These changes allow one to make types like `MyRc`(code below), to be object safe method receivers after implementing `DispatchFromDyn` and `Deref` for them.
This allows for code like this:

### Why:
A custom pointer type with interior mutability allows one to store extra information in the pointer itself.
These changes allow for such a type to be a method receiver.
### Examples:
My use case is a cycle aware custom `Rc` implementation that when dropping a cycle marks some references dangling.
On the [forum](https://internals.rust-lang.org/t/impl-dispatchfromdyn-for-cell/14762/8) andersk mentioned that they track if a `Gc` reference is rooted with an extra bit in the reference itself.
Suggest using a lock for `*Cell: Sync` bounds
I mostly did this for `OnceCell<T>` at first because users will be confused to see that the `OnceCell<T>` in `std` isn't `Sync` but then extended it to `Cell<T>` and `RefCell<T>` as well.
`sub_ptr()` is equivalent to `usize::try_from().unwrap_unchecked()`, not `usize::from().unwrap_unchecked()`
`usize::from()` gives a `usize`, not `Result<usize>`, and `usize: From<isize>` is not implemented.
Allow fmt::Arguments::as_str() to return more Some(_).
This adjusts the documentation to allow optimization of format_args!() to be visible through fmt::Arguments::as_str().
