This fixes a problem where code generated by an external macro with an
RPIT would end up using the call-site edition instead of the macro's
edition for the RPIT. When used from a 2024 crate, this caused the code
to change behavior to the 2024 capturing rules, which we don't want.
This was caused by the impl-trait lowering code would replace the span
with one marked with `DesugaringKind::OpaqueTy` desugaring. However, it
was also overriding the edition of the span with the edition of the
local crate. Instead it should be using the edition of the span itself.

Add `&pin (mut|const) T` type position sugar
This adds parser support for `&pin mut T` and `&pin const T` references. These are desugared to `Pin<&mut T>` and `Pin<&T>` in the AST lowering phases.
This PR currently includes #130526 since that one is in the commit queue. Only the most recent commits (bd450027eb4a94b814a7dd9c0fa29102e6361149 and following) are new.

Retire the `unnamed_fields` feature for now
`#![feature(unnamed_fields)]` was implemented in part in #115131 and #115367, however work on that feature has (afaict) stalled and in the mean time there have been some concerns raised (e.g.[^1][^2]) about whether `unnamed_fields` is worthwhile to have in the language, especially in its current desugaring. Because it represents a compiler implementation burden including a new kind of anonymous ADT and additional complication to field selection, and is quite prone to bugs today, I'm choosing to remove the feature.
However, since I'm not one to really write a bunch of words, I'm specifically *not* going to de-RFC this feature. This PR essentially *rolls back* the state of this feature to "RFC accepted but not yet implemented"; however if anyone wants to formally unapprove the RFC from the t-lang side, then please be my guest. I'm just not totally willing to summarize the various language-facing reasons for why this feature is or is not worthwhile, since I'm coming from the compiler side mostly.

Fix anon const def-creation when macros are involved take 2
Fixes#130321
There were two cases that #129137 did not handle correctly:
- Given a const argument `Foo<{ bar!() }>` in which `bar!()` expands to `N`, we would visit the anon const and then visit the `{ bar() }` expression instead of visiting the macro call. This meant that we would build a def for the anon const as `{ bar!() }` is not a trivial const argument as `bar!()` is not a path.
- Given a const argument `Foo<{ bar!() }>` is which `bar!()` expands to `{ qux!() }` in which `qux!()` expands to `N`, it should not be considered a trivial const argument as `{{ N }}` has two pairs of braces. If we only looked at `qux`'s expansion it would *look* like a trivial const argument even though it is not. We have to track whether we have "unwrapped" a brace already when recursing into the expansions of `bar`/`qux`/any macro

...and remove the `const_arg_path` feature gate as a result. It was only
a stopgap measure to fix the regression that the new lowering introduced
(which should now be fixed by this PR).
Simplify some nested `if` statements
Applies some but not all instances of `clippy::collapsible_if`. Some ended up looking worse afterwards, though, so I left those out. Also applies instances of `clippy::collapsible_else_if`
Review with whitespace disabled please.
This is needed for Clippy to know that the `#[allow(unused)]` attributes
added by the expansion of `?` are part of the desugaring, and that they
do not come from the user code.
rust-lang/rust-clippy#13380 exhibits a manifestation of this problem.
Remove `ParamMode::ExplicitNamed`
This was introduced as a hack to improve a diagnostics suggestion in #61679. It was subsequently broken, but also it was an incomplete hack that I don't believe we need to support, so let's just remove it.
Add `#[warn(unreachable_pub)]` to a bunch of compiler crates
By default `unreachable_pub` identifies things that need not be `pub` and tells you to make them `pub(crate)`. But sometimes those things don't need any kind of visibility. So they way I did these was to remove the visibility entirely for each thing the lint identifies, and then add `pub(crate)` back in everywhere the compiler said it was necessary. (Or occasionally `pub(super)` when context suggested that was appropriate.) Tedious, but results in more `pub` removal.
There are plenty more crates to do but this seems like enough for a first PR.

Retroactively feature gate `ConstArgKind::Path`
This puts the lowering introduced by #125915 under a feature gate until we fix the regressions introduced by it. Alternative to whole sale reverting the PR since it didn't seem like a very clean revert and I think this is generally a step in the right direction and don't want to get stuck landing and reverting the PR over and over :)
cc #129137 ``@camelid,`` tests taken from there. beta is branching soon so I think it makes sense to not try and rush that fix through since it wont have much time to bake and if it has issues we can't simply revert it on beta.

Caught these when cleaning up #129344 and decided to run clippy to find the rest
Use more slice patterns inside the compiler
Nothing super noteworthy. Just replacing the common 'fragile' pattern of "length check followed by indexing or unwrap" with slice patterns for legibility and 'robustness'.

This is a very large commit since a lot needs to be changed in order to
make the tests pass. The salient changes are:
- `ConstArgKind` gets a new `Path` variant, and all const params are now
represented using it. Non-param paths still use `ConstArgKind::Anon`
to prevent this change from getting too large, but they will soon use
the `Path` variant too.
- `ConstArg` gets a distinct `hir_id` field and its own variant in
`hir::Node`. This affected many parts of the compiler that expected
the parent of an `AnonConst` to be the containing context (e.g., an
array repeat expression). They have been changed to check the
"grandparent" where necessary.
- Some `ast::AnonConst`s now have their `DefId`s created in
rustc_ast_lowering rather than `DefCollector`. This is because in some
cases they will end up becoming a `ConstArgKind::Path` instead, which
has no `DefId`. We have to solve this in a hacky way where we guess
whether the `AnonConst` could end up as a path const since we can't
know for sure until after name resolution (`N` could refer to a free
const or a nullary struct). If it has no chance as being a const
param, then we create a `DefId` in `DefCollector` -- otherwise we
decide during ast_lowering. This will have to be updated once all path
consts use `ConstArgKind::Path`.
- We explicitly use `ConstArgHasType` for array lengths, rather than
implicitly relying on anon const type feeding -- this is due to the
addition of `ConstArgKind::Path`.
- Some tests have their outputs changed, but the changes are for the
most part minor (including removing duplicate or almost-duplicate
errors). One test now ICEs, but it is for an incomplete, unstable
feature and is now tracked at #127009.
This is needed to track anon const parents properly once we implement
`ConstArgKind::Path` (which requires moving anon const def-creation
outside of `DefCollector`):
Why do we need this in addition to [`Self::current_hir_id_owner`]?
Currently (as of June 2024), anonymous constants are not HIR owners;
however, they do get their own DefIds. Some of these DefIds have to be
created during AST lowering, rather than def collection, because we
can't tell until after name resolution whether an anonymous constant
will end up instead being a [`rustc_hir::ConstArgKind::Path`]. However,
to compute which generics are available to an anonymous constant nested
inside another, we need to make sure that the parent is recorded as the
parent anon const, not the enclosing item. So we need to track parent
defs differently from HIR owners, since they will be finer-grained in
the case of anon consts.

Deny `use<>` for RPITITs
Precise capturing `use<>` syntax is currently a no-op on RPITITs, since GATs have no variance, so all captured lifetimes are captured invariantly.
We don't currently *need* to support `use<>` on RPITITs, since `use<>` is initially intended for migrating RPIT *overcaptures* from edition 2021->2024, but since RPITITs currently capture all in-scope lifetimes, we'll never need to write `use<>` on an RPITIT.
Eventually, though, it would be desirable to support precise capturing on RPITITs, since RPITITs overcapturing by default can be annoying to some folks. But let's separate that (which will likely require some delicate types team work for adding variances to GATs and adjusting the refinement rules) from the stabilization of the feature for edition 2024.

Place tail expression behind terminating scope
This PR implements #123739 so that we can do further experiments in nightly.
A little rewrite has been applied to `for await` lowering. It was previously `unsafe { Pin::unchecked_new(into_async_iter(..)) }`. Under the edition 2024 rule, however, `into_async_iter` gets dropped at the end of the `unsafe` block. This presumably the first Edition 2024 migration rule goes by hoisting `into_async_iter(..)` into `match` one level above, so it now looks like the following.

We already do this for a number of crates, e.g. `rustc_middle`,
`rustc_span`, `rustc_metadata`, `rustc_span`, `rustc_errors`.
For the ones we don't, in many cases the attributes are a mess.
- There is no consistency about order of attribute kinds (e.g.
`allow`/`deny`/`feature`).
- Within attribute kind groups (e.g. the `feature` attributes),
sometimes the order is alphabetical, and sometimes there is no
particular order.
- Sometimes the attributes of a particular kind aren't even grouped
all together, e.g. there might be a `feature`, then an `allow`, then
another `feature`.
This commit extends the existing sorting to all compiler crates,
increasing consistency. If any new attribute line is added there is now
only one place it can go -- no need for arbitrary decisions.
Exceptions:
- `rustc_log`, `rustc_next_trait_solver` and `rustc_type_ir_macros`,
because they have no crate attributes.
- `rustc_codegen_gcc`, because it's quasi-external to rustc (e.g. it's
ignored in `rustfmt.toml`).
Parse unsafe attributes
Initial parse implementation for #123757
This is the initial work to parse unsafe attributes, which is represented as an extra `unsafety` field in `MetaItem` and `AttrItem`. There's two areas in the code where it appears that parsing is done manually and not using the parser stuff, and I'm not sure how I'm supposed to thread the change there.
Rename HIR `TypeBinding` to `AssocItemConstraint` and related cleanup
Rename `hir::TypeBinding` and `ast::AssocConstraint` to `AssocItemConstraint` and update all items and locals using the old terminology.
Motivation: The terminology *type binding* is extremely outdated. "Type bindings" not only include constraints on associated *types* but also on associated *constants* (feature `associated_const_equality`) and on RPITITs of associated *functions* (feature `return_type_notation`). Hence the word *item* in the new name. Furthermore, the word *binding* commonly refers to a mapping from a binder/identifier to a "value" for some definition of "value". Its use in "type binding" made sense when equality constraints (e.g., `AssocTy = Ty`) were the only kind of associated item constraint. Nowadays however, we also have *associated type bounds* (e.g., `AssocTy: Bound`) for which the term *binding* doesn't make sense.

The starting point for this was identical comments on two different
fields, in `ast::VariantData::Struct` and `hir::VariantData::Struct`:

I tried that, and then found that I needed to add an `ErrorGuaranteed`
to `Recovered::Yes`. Then I ended up using `Recovered` instead of
`Option<ErrorGuaranteed>` for these two places and elsewhere, which
required moving `ErrorGuaranteed` from `rustc_parse` to `rustc_ast`.
This makes things more consistent, because `Recovered` is used in more
places, and there are fewer uses of `bool` and
`Option<ErrorGuaranteed>`. And safer, because it's difficult/impossible
to set `recovered` to `Recovered::Yes` without having emitted an error.
Remove braces when fixing a nested use tree into a single item
[Back in 2019](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/56645) I added rustfix support for the `unused_imports` lint, to automatically remove them when running `cargo fix`. For the most part this worked great, but when removing all but one childs of a nested use tree it turned `use foo::{Unused, Used}` into `use foo::{Used}`. This is slightly annoying, because it then requires you to run `rustfmt` to get `use foo::Used`.
This PR automatically removes braces and the surrouding whitespace when all but one child of a nested use tree are unused. To get it done I had to add the span of the nested use tree to the AST, and refactor a bit the code I wrote back then.
A thing I noticed is, there doesn't seem to be any `//@ run-rustfix` test for fixing the `unused_imports` lint. I created a test in `tests/suggestions` (is that the right directory?) that for now tests just what I added in the PR. I can followup in a separate PR to add more tests for fixing `unused_lints`.

Some hir cleanups
It seemed odd to not put `AnonConst` in the arena, compared with the other types that we did put into an arena. This way we can also give it a `Span` without growing a lot of other HIR data structures because of the extra field.

Remove many `#[macro_use] extern crate foo` items
This requires the addition of more `use` items, which often make the code more verbose. But they also make the code easier to read, because `#[macro_use]` obscures where macros are defined.

Add a note to the ArbitraryExpressionInPattern error
The current "arbitrary expressions aren't allowed in patterns" error is confusing, as it fires for code where it *looks* like a pattern but the compiler still treats it as an expression. That this is due to the `:expr` fragment specifier forcing the expression-ness property on the code.
In the test suite, the "arbitrary expressions aren't allowed in patterns" error can only be found in combination with macro_rules macros that force expression-ness of their content, namely via `:expr` metavariables. I also can't come up with cases where there would be an expression instead of a pattern, so I think it's always coming from an `:expr`.
In order to make the error less confusing, this adds a note explaining the weird `:expr` fragment behaviour.

delegation: Support renaming, and async, const, extern "ABI" and C-variadic functions
Also allow delegating to functions with opaque types (`impl Trait`).
The delegation item will refer to the original opaque type from the callee, fresh opaque type won't be created, which seems like a reasonable behavior.
(Such delegation items will cause query cycles when used in trait impls, but it can be fixed later.)
