Implement partial support for non-lifetime binders

This implements support for non-lifetime binders. It's pretty useless currently, but I wanted to put this up so the implementation can be discussed.

Specifically, this piggybacks off of the late-bound lifetime collection code in `rustc_hir_typeck::collect::lifetimes`. This seems like a necessary step given the fact we don't resolve late-bound regions until this point, and binders are sometimes merged.

Q: I'm not sure if I should go along this route, or try to modify the earlier nameres code to compute the right bound var indices for type and const binders eagerly... If so, I'll need to rename all these queries to something more appropriate (I've done this for `resolve_lifetime::Region` -> `resolve_lifetime::ResolvedArg`)

c9ae38c71e Avoid unnecessary MetaItem/Attribute conversions.
`check_builtin_attribute` calls `parse_meta` to convert an `Attribute`
to a `MetaItem`, which it then checks. However, many callers of
`check_builtin_attribute` start with a `MetaItem`, and then convert it
to an `Attribute` by calling `cx.attribute(meta_item)`. This `MetaItem`
to `Attribute` to `MetaItem` conversion is silly.

This commit adds a new function `check_builtin_meta_item`, which can be
called instead from these call sites. `check_builtin_attribute` also now
calls it. The commit also renames `check_meta` as `check_attr` to better
match its arguments.

6153d3cbe6 Auto merge of #101212 - eholk:dyn-star, r=compiler-errors
Initial implementation of dyn*

This PR adds extremely basic and incomplete support for [dyn*](https://smallcultfollowing.com/babysteps//blog/2022/03/29/dyn-can-we-make-dyn-sized/). The goal is to get something in tree behind a flag to make collaboration easier, and also to make sure the implementation so far is not unreasonable. This PR does quite a few things:

* Introduce `dyn_star` feature flag
* Adds parsing for `dyn* Trait` types
* Defines `dyn* Trait` as a sized type
* Adds support for explicit casts, like `42usize as dyn* Debug`
  * Including const evaluation of such casts
* Adds codegen for drop glue so things are cleaned up properly when a `dyn* Trait` object goes out of scope
* Adds codegen for method calls, at least for methods that take `&self`

Quite a bit is still missing, but this gives us a starting point. Note that this is never intended to become stable surface syntax for Rust, but rather `dyn*` is planned to be used as an implementation detail for async functions in dyn traits.

# Stabilization proposal

This PR proposes the stabilization of `#![feature(generic_associated_types)]`. While there a number of future additions to be made and bugs to be fixed (both discussed below), properly doing these will require significant language design and will ultimately likely be backwards-compatible. Given the overwhelming desire to have some form of generic associated types (GATs) available on stable and the stability of the "simple" uses, stabilizing the current subset of GAT features is almost certainly the correct next step.

Tracking issue: #44265
Initiative: https://rust-lang.github.io/generic-associated-types-initiative/
RFC: https://github.com/rust-lang/rfcs/blob/master/text/1598-generic_associated_types.md
Version: 1.65 (2022-08-22 => beta, 2022-11-03 => stable).

## Motivation

There are a myriad of potential use cases for GATs. Stabilization unblocks probable future language features (e.g. async functions in traits), potential future standard library features (e.g. a `LendingIterator` or some form of `Iterator` with a lifetime generic), and a plethora of user use cases (some of which can be seen just by scrolling through the tracking issue and looking at all the issues linking to it).

There are a myriad of potential use cases for GATs. First, there are many users that have chosen to not use GATs primarily because they are not stable (some of which can be seen just by scrolling through the tracking issue and looking at all the issues linking to it). Second, while language feature desugaring isn't *blocked* on stabilization, it gives more confidence on using the feature. Likewise, library features like `LendingIterator` are not necessarily blocked on stabilization to be implemented unstably; however few, if any, public-facing APIs actually use unstable features.

This feature has a long history of design, discussion, and developement - the RFC was first introduced roughly 6 years ago. While there are still a number of features left to implement and bugs left to fix, it's clear that it's unlikely those will have backwards-incompatibility concerns. Additionally, the bugs that do exist do not strongly impede the most-common use cases.

## What is stabilized

The primary language feature stabilized here is the ability to have generics on associated types, as so. Additionally, where clauses on associated types will now be accepted, regardless if the associated type is generic or not.

```rust
trait ATraitWithGATs {
    type Assoc<'a, T> where T: 'a;
}
trait ATraitWithoutGATs<'a, T> {
    type Assoc where T: 'a;
}
```

When adding an impl for a trait with generic associated types, the generics for the associated type are copied as well. Note that where clauses are allowed both after the specified type and before the equals sign; however, the latter is a warn-by-default deprecation.

```rust
struct X;
struct Y;
impl ATraitWithGATs for X {
    type Assoc<'a, T> = &'a T
      where T: 'a;
}
impl ATraitWithGATs for Y {
    type Assoc<'a, T>
      where T: 'a
    = &'a T;
}
```

To use a GAT in a function, generics are specified on the associated type, as if it was a struct or enum. GATs can also be specified in trait bounds:

```rust
fn accepts_gat<'a, T>(t: &'a T) -> T::Assoc<'a, T>
  where for<'x> T: ATraitWithGATs<Assoc<'a, T> = &'a T> {
    ...
}
```

GATs can also appear in trait methods. However, depending on how they are used, they may confer where clauses on the associated type definition. More information can be found [here](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/87479). Briefly, where clauses are required when those bounds can be proven in the methods that *construct* the GAT or other associated types that use the GAT in the trait. This allows impls to have maximum flexibility in the types defined for the associated type.

To take a relatively simple example:

```rust
trait Iterable {
    type Item<'a>;
    type Iterator<'a>: Iterator<Item = Self::Item<'a>>;
    fn iter<'x>(&'x self) -> Self::Iterator<'x>;
    //^ We know that `Self: 'a` for `Iterator<'a>`, so we require that bound on `Iterator`
    //  `Iterator` uses `Self::Item`, so we also require a `Self: 'a` on `Item` too
}
```

A couple well-explained examples are available in a previous [blog post](https://blog.rust-lang.org/2021/08/03/GATs-stabilization-push.html).

## What isn't stabilized/implemented

### Universal type/const quantification

Currently, you can write a bound like `X: for<'a> Trait<Assoc<'a> = &'a ()>`. However, you cannot currently write `for<T> X: Trait<Assoc<T> = T>` or `for<const N> X: Trait<Assoc<N> = [usize; N]>`.

Here is an example where this is needed:

```rust
trait Foo {}
trait Trait {
    type Assoc<F: Foo>;
}
trait Trait2: Sized {
    fn foo<F: Foo, T: Trait<Assoc<F> = F>>(_t: T);
}
```

In the above example, the *caller* must specify `F`, which is likely not what is desired.

### Object-safe GATs

Unlike non-generic associated types, traits with GATs are not currently object-safe. In other words the following are not allowed:

```rust
trait Trait {
    type Assoc<'a>;
}
fn foo(t: &dyn for<'a> Trait<Assoc<'a> = &'a ()>) {}
         //^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ not allowed
let ty: Box<dyn for<'a> Trait<Assoc<'a> = &'a ()>>;
          //^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ not allowed
```

### Higher-kinded types

You cannot write currently (and there are no current plans to implement this):

```rust
struct Struct<'a> {}
fn foo(s: for<'a> Struct<'a>) {}
```

## Remaining bugs and open issues

A full list of remaining open issues can be found at: https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/labels/F-generic_associated_types

There are some `known-bug` tests in-tree at `src/test/ui/generic-associated-types/bugs`.

Here I'll categorize most of those that GAT bugs (or involve a pattern found more with GATs), but not those that include GATs but not a GAT issue in and of itself. (I also won't include issues directly for things listed elsewhere here.)

Using the concrete type of a GAT instead of the projection type can give errors, since lifetimes are chosen to be early-bound vs late-bound.
- #85533
- #87803

In certain cases, we can run into cycle or overflow errors. This is more generally a problem with associated types.
- #87755
- #87758

Bounds on an associatd type need to be proven by an impl, but where clauses need to be proven by the usage. This can lead to confusion when users write one when they mean the other.
- #87831
- #90573

We sometimes can't normalize closure signatures fully. Really an asociated types issue, but might happen a bit more frequently with GATs, since more obvious place for HRTB lifetimes.
- #88382

When calling a function, we assign types to parameters "too late", after we already try (and fail) to normalize projections. Another associated types issue that might pop up more with GATs.
- #88460
- #96230

We don't fully have implied bounds for lifetimes appearing in GAT trait paths, which can lead to unconstrained type errors.
- #88526

Suggestion for adding lifetime bounds can suggest unhelpful fixes (`T: 'a` instead of `Self: 'a`), but the next compiler error after making the suggested change is helpful.
- #90816
- #92096
- #95268

We can end up requiring that `for<'a> I: 'a` when we really want `for<'a where I: 'a> I: 'a`. This can leave unhelpful errors than effectively can't be satisfied unless `I: 'static`. Requires bigger changes and not only GATs.
- #91693

Unlike with non-generic associated types, we don't eagerly normalize with param env candidates. This is intended behavior (for now), to avoid accidentaly stabilizing picking arbitrary impls.
- #91762

Some Iterator adapter patterns (namely `filter`) require Polonius or unsafe to work.
- #92985

## Potential Future work

### Universal type/const quantification

No work has been done to implement this. There are also some questions around implied bounds.

###  Object-safe GATs

The intention is to make traits with GATs object-safe. There are some design work to be done around well-formedness rules and general implementation.

### GATified std lib types

It would be helpful to either introduce new std lib traits (like `LendingIterator`) or to modify existing ones (adding a `'a` generic to `Iterator::Item`). There also a number of other candidates, like `Index`/`IndexMut` and `Fn`/`FnMut`/`FnOnce`.

### Reduce the need for `for<'a>`

Seen [here](https://github.com/rust-lang/rfcs/pull/1598#issuecomment-2611378730). One possible syntax:

```rust
trait Iterable {
    type Iter<'a>: Iterator<Item = Self::Item<'a>>;
}
fn foo<T>() where T: Iterable, T::Item<let 'a>: Display { } //note the `let`!
```

### Better implied bounds on higher-ranked things

Currently if we have a `type Item<'a> where self: 'a`, and a `for<'a> T: Iterator<Item<'a> = &'a ()`, this requires `for<'a> Self: 'a`. Really, we want `for<'a where T: 'a> ...`

There was some mentions of this all the back in the RFC thread [here](https://github.com/rust-lang/rfcs/pull/1598#issuecomment-264340514).

## Alternatives

### Make generics on associated type in bounds a binder

Imagine the bound `for<'a> T: Trait<Item<'a>= &'a ()>`. It might be that `for<'a>` is "too large" and it should instead be `T: Trait<for<'a> Item<'a>= &'a ()>`. Brought up in RFC thread [here](https://github.com/rust-lang/rfcs/pull/1598#issuecomment-229443863) and in a few places since.

Another related question: Is `for<'a>` the right syntax? Maybe `where<'a>`? Also originally found in RFC thread [here](https://github.com/rust-lang/rfcs/pull/1598#issuecomment-261639969).

### Stabilize lifetime GATs first

This has been brought up a few times. The idea is to only allow GATs with lifetime parameters to in initial stabilization. This was probably most useful prior to actual implementation. At this point, lifetimes, types, and consts are all implemented and work. It feels like an arbitrary split without strong reason.

eff35e59c6 Introduce dyn_star feature flag
The primary purpose of this commit is to introduce the
dyn_star flag so we can begin experimenting with implementation.

In order to have something to do in the feature gate test, we also add
parser support for `dyn* Trait` objects. These are currently treated
just like `dyn Trait` objects, but this will change in the future.

Note that for now `dyn* Trait` is experimental syntax to enable
implementing some of the machinery needed for async fn in dyn traits
without fully supporting the feature.

6568ef338e Remove path_span argument to the visit_path_segment methods.
The `visit_path_segment` method of both the AST and HIR visitors has a
`path_span` argument that isn't necessary. This commit removes it.

There are two very small and inconsequential functional changes.

- One call to `NodeCollector::insert` now is passed a path segment
  identifier span instead of a full path span. This span is only used in
a panic message printed in the case of an internal compiler bug.

- Likewise, one call to `LifetimeCollectVisitor::record_elided_anchor`
  now uses a path segment identifier span instead of a full path span.
  This span is used to make some `'_` lifetimes.

31e39446ec Stabilize #![feature(label_break_value)]
# Stabilization proposal

The feature was implemented in https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/50045 by est31 and has been in nightly since 2018-05-16 (over 4 years now).
There are [no open issues][issue-label] other than the tracking issue. There is a strong consensus that `break` is the right keyword and we should not use `return`.

There have been several concerns raised about this feature on the tracking issue (other than the one about tests, which has been fixed, and an interaction with try blocks, which has been fixed).
1. nrc's original comment about cost-benefit analysis: https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/48594#issuecomment-422235234
2. joshtriplett's comments about seeing use cases: https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/48594#issuecomment-422281176
3. withoutboats's comments that Rust does not need more control flow constructs: https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/48594#issuecomment-450050630

Many different examples of code that's simpler using this feature have been provided:
- A lexer by rpjohnst which must repeat code without label-break-value: https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/48594#issuecomment-422502014
- A snippet by SergioBenitez which avoids using a new function and adding several new return points to a function: https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/48594#issuecomment-427628251. This particular case would also work if `try` blocks were stabilized (at the cost of making the code harder to optimize).
- Several examples by JohnBSmith: https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/48594#issuecomment-434651395
- Several examples by Centril: https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/48594#issuecomment-440154733
- An example by petrochenkov where this is used in the compiler itself to avoid duplicating error checking code: https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/48594#issuecomment-443557569
- Amanieu recently provided another example related to complex conditions, where try blocks would not have helped: https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/48594#issuecomment-1184213006

Additionally, petrochenkov notes that this is strictly more powerful than labelled loops due to macros which accidentally exit a loop instead of being consumed by the macro matchers: https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/48594#issuecomment-450246249

nrc later resolved their concern, mostly because of the aforementioned macro problems.
joshtriplett suggested that macros could be able to generate IR directly
(https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/48594#issuecomment-451685983) but there are no open RFCs,
and the design space seems rather speculative.

joshtriplett later resolved his concerns, due to a symmetry between this feature and existing labelled break: https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/48594#issuecomment-632960804

withoutboats has regrettably left the language team.

joshtriplett later posted that the lang team would consider starting an FCP given a stabilization report: https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/48594#issuecomment-1111269353

 ## Interactions with other features

Labels follow the hygiene of local variables.

label-break-value is permitted within `try` blocks:
```rust
let _: Result<(), ()> = try {
    'foo: {
        Err(())?;
        break 'foo;
    }
};
```

label-break-value is disallowed within closures, generators, and async blocks:
```rust
'a: {
    || break 'a
    //~^ ERROR use of unreachable label `'a`
    //~| ERROR `break` inside of a closure
}
```

label-break-value is disallowed on [_BlockExpression_]; it can only occur as a [_LoopExpression_]:
```rust
fn labeled_match() {
    match false 'b: { //~ ERROR block label not supported here
        _ => {}
    }
}
macro_rules! m {
    ($b:block) => {
        'lab: $b; //~ ERROR cannot use a `block` macro fragment here
        unsafe $b; //~ ERROR cannot use a `block` macro fragment here
        |x: u8| -> () $b; //~ ERROR cannot use a `block` macro fragment here
    }
}
fn foo() {
    m!({});
}
```

Implement `#[rustc_default_body_unstable]`

This PR implements a new stability attribute — `#[rustc_default_body_unstable]`.

`#[rustc_default_body_unstable]` controls the stability of default bodies in traits.
For example:
```rust
pub trait Trait {
    #[rustc_default_body_unstable(feature = "feat", isssue = "none")]
    fn item() {}
}
```
In order to implement `Trait` user needs to either
- implement `item` (even though it has a default implementation)
- enable `#![feature(feat)]`

This is useful in conjunction with [`#[rustc_must_implement_one_of]`](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/92164), we may want to relax requirements for a trait, for example allowing implementing either of `PartialEq::{eq, ne}`, but do so in a safe way — making implementation of only `PartialEq::ne` unstable.

Using an obviously-placeholder syntax. An RFC would still be needed before this could have any chance at stabilization, and it might be removed at any point.

But I'd really like to have it in nightly at least to ensure it works well with try_trait_v2, especially as we refactor the traits.

Report undeclared lifetimes during late resolution.

First step in https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/91557

We reuse the rib design of the current resolution framework. Specific `LifetimeRib` and `LifetimeRibKind` types are introduced. The most important variant is `LifetimeRibKind::Generics`, which happens each time we encounter something which may introduce generic lifetime parameters. It can be an item or a `for<...>` binder. The `LifetimeBinderKind` specifies how this rib behaves with respect to in-band lifetimes.

Rollup merge of #94635 - jhpratt:merge-deprecated-attrs, r=davidtwco
Merge `#[deprecated]` and `#[rustc_deprecated]`

The first commit makes "reason" an alias for "note" in `#[rustc_deprecated]`, while still prohibiting it in `#[deprecated]`.

The second commit changes "suggestion" to not just be a feature of `#[rustc_deprecated]`. This is placed behind the new `deprecated_suggestion` feature. This needs a tracking issue; let me know if this PR will be approved and I can create one.

The third commit is what permits `#[deprecated]` to be used when `#![feature(staged_api)]` is enabled. This isn't yet used in stdlib (only tests), as it would require duplicating all deprecation attributes until a bootstrap occurs. I intend to submit a follow-up PR that replaces all uses and removes the remaining `#[rustc_deprecated]` code after the next bootstrap.

Update some rustc dependencies to deduplicate them

This PR updates `rand` and `itertools` in rustc (not the whole workspace) in order to deduplicate them (and hopefully slightly improve compile times).

~~Currently, `object` is still duplicated, but https://github.com/rust-lang/thorin/pull/15 and updating `thorin` in the future will remove the use of version 0.27.~~ Update: Thorin 0.2 has now been released, and this PR updates `rustc_codegen_ssa` to use it and deduplicate the `object` crate.

There's a final tiny rustc dependency, `cfg-if`, which will be left: as both versions 0.1.x and 1.0 looked to be heavily depended on, they will require a few cascading updates to be removed.

bors
cdeba02ff7 Auto merge of #88558 - fee1-dead:const-drop, r=oli-obk
Const drop

The changes are pretty primitive at this point. But at least it works. ^-^

Problems with the current change that I can think of now:
 - [x] `~const Drop` shouldn't change anything in the non-const world.
 - [x] types that do not have drop glues shouldn't fail to satisfy `~const Drop` in const contexts. `struct S { a: u8, b: u16 }` This might not fail for `needs_non_const_drop`, but it will fail in `rustc_trait_selection`.
 - [x] The current change accepts types that have `const Drop` impls but have non-const `Drop` glue.

Fixes #88424.

Significant Changes:

- `~const Drop` is no longer treated as a normal trait bound. In non-const contexts, this bound has no effect, but in const contexts, this restricts the input type and all of its transitive fields to either a) have a `const Drop` impl or b) can be trivially dropped (i.e. no drop glue)
- `T: ~const Drop` will not be linted like `T: Drop`.
- Instead of recursing and iterating through the type in `rustc_mir::transform::check_consts`, we use the trait system to special case `~const Drop`. See [`rustc_trait_selection::...::candidate_assembly#assemble_const_drop_candidates`](https://github.com/fee1-dead/rust/blob/const-drop/compiler/rustc_trait_selection/src/traits/select/candidate_assembly.rs#L817) and others.

Changes not related to `const Drop`ping and/or changes that are insignificant:

 - `Node.constness_for_typeck` no longer returns `hir::Constness::Const` for type aliases in traits. This was previously used to hack how we determine default bound constness for items. But because we now use an explicit opt-in, it is no longer needed.
 - Removed `is_const_impl_raw` query. We have `impl_constness`, and the only existing use of that query uses `HirId`, which means we can just operate it with hir.
 - `ty::Destructor` now has a field `constness`, which represents the constness of the destructor.

Remove Session.used_attrs and move logic to CheckAttrVisitor
Instead of updating global state to mark attributes as used,
we now explicitly emit a warning when an attribute is used in
an unsupported position. As a side effect, we are to emit more
detailed warning messages (instead of just a generic "unused" message).

`Session.check_name` is removed, since its only purpose was to mark
the attribute as used. All of the callers are modified to use
`Attribute.has_name`

Additionally, `AttributeType::AssumedUsed` is removed - an 'assumed
used' attribute is implemented by simply not performing any checks
in `CheckAttrVisitor` for a particular attribute.

We no longer emit unused attribute warnings for the `#[rustc_dummy]`
attribute - it's an internal attribute used for tests, so it doesn't
mark sense to treat it as 'unused'.

With this commit, a large source of global untracked state is removed.

Stabilize `arbitrary_enum_discriminant`

Closes #60553.

## Stabilization Report

_copied from https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/60553#issuecomment-865922311_

### Summary

Enables a user to specify *explicit* discriminants on arbitrary enums.

Previously, this was hard to achieve:

```rust
#[repr(u8)]
enum Foo {
    A(u8) = 0,
    B(i8) = 1,
    C(bool) = 42,
}
```

Someone would need to add 41 hidden variants in between as a workaround with implicit discriminants.

In conjunction with [RFC 2195](https://github.com/rust-lang/rfcs/blob/master/text/2195-really-tagged-unions.md), this feature would provide more flexibility for FFI and unsafe code involving enums.

### Test cases

Most tests are in [`src/test/ui/enum-discriminant`](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/tree/master/src/test/ui/enum-discriminant), there are two [historical](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/blob/master/src/test/ui/parser/tag-variant-disr-non-nullary.rs) [tests](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/blob/master/src/test/ui/parser/issue-17383.rs) that are now covered by the feature (removed by this pr due to them being obsolete).

### Edge cases

The feature is well defined and does not have many edge cases.
One [edge case](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/70509) was related to another unstable feature named `repr128` and is resolved.

### Previous PRs

The [implementation PR](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/60732) added documentation to the Unstable Book, https://github.com/rust-lang/reference/pull/1055 was opened as a continuation of https://github.com/rust-lang/reference/pull/639.

### Resolution of unresolved questions

The questions are resolved in https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/60553#issuecomment-511235271.

Stabilize "RangeFrom" patterns in 1.55

Implements a partial stabilization of #67264 and #37854.
Reference PR: https://github.com/rust-lang/reference/pull/900

# Stabilization Report

This stabilizes the `X..` pattern, shown as such, offering an exhaustive match for unsigned integers:
```rust
match x as u32 {
      0 => println!("zero!"),
      1.. => println!("positive number!"),
}
```

Currently if a Rust author wants to write such a match on an integer, they must use `1..={integer}::MAX` . By allowing a "RangeFrom" style pattern, this simplifies the match to not require the MAX path and thus not require specifically repeating the type inside the match, allowing for easier refactoring. This is particularly useful for instances like the above case, where different behavior on "0" vs. "1 or any positive number" is desired, and the actual MAX is unimportant.

Notably, this excepts slice patterns which include half-open ranges from stabilization, as the wisdom of those is still subject to some debate.

## Practical Applications

Instances of this specific usage have appeared in the compiler:
16143d1067/compiler/rustc_middle/src/ty/inhabitedness/mod.rs (L219)
673d0db5e3/compiler/rustc_ty_utils/src/ty.rs (L524)

And I have noticed there are also a handful of "in the wild" users who have deployed it to similar effect, especially in the case of rejecting any value of a certain number or greater. It simply makes it much more ergonomic to write an irrefutable match, as done in Katholieke Universiteit Leuven's [SCALE and MAMBA project](05e5db00d5/WebAssembly/scale_std/src/fixed_point.rs (L685-L695)).

## Tests
There were already many tests in [src/test/ui/half-open-range/patterns](90a2e5e3fe/src/test/ui/half-open-range-patterns), as well as [generic pattern tests that test the `exclusive_range_pattern` feature](673d0db5e3/src/test/ui/pattern/usefulness/integer-ranges/reachability.rs), many dating back to the feature's introduction and remaining standing to this day. However, this stabilization comes with some additional tests to explore the... sometimes interesting behavior of interactions with other patterns. e.g. There is, at least, a mild diagnostic improvement in some edge cases, because before now, the pattern `0..=(5+1)` encounters the `half_open_range_patterns` feature gate and can thus emit the request to enable the feature flag, while also emitting the "inclusive range with no end" diagnostic. There is no intent to allow an `X..=` pattern that I am aware of, so removing the flag request is a strict improvement. The arrival of the `J | K` "or" pattern also enables some odd formations.

Some of the behavior tested for here is derived from experiments in this [Playground](https://play.rust-lang.org/?version=nightly&mode=debug&edition=2018&gist=58777b3c715c85165ac4a70d93efeefc) example, linked at https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/67264#issuecomment-812770692, which may be useful to reference to observe the current behavior more closely.

In addition tests constituting an explanation of the "slicing range patterns" syntax issue are included in this PR.

## Desiderata

The exclusive range patterns and half-open range patterns are fairly strongly requested by many authors, as they make some patterns much more natural to write, but there is disagreement regarding the "closed" exclusive range pattern or the "RangeTo" pattern, especially where it creates "off by one" gaps in the presence of a "catch-all" wildcard case. Also, there are obviously no range analyses in place that will force diagnostics for e.g. highly overlapping matches. I believe these should be warned on, ideally, and I think it would be reasonable to consider such a blocker to stabilizing this feature, but there is no technical issue with the feature as-is from the purely syntactic perspective as such overlapping or missed matches can already be generated today with such a catch-all case. And part of the "point" of the feature, at least from my view, is to make it easier to omit wildcard matches: a pattern with such an "open" match produces an irrefutable match and does not need the wild card case, making it easier to benefit from exhaustiveness checking.

## History

- Implemented:
  - Partially via exclusive ranges: https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/35712
  - Fully with half-open ranges: https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/67258
- Unresolved Questions:
  - The precedence concerns of https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/48501 were considered as likely requiring adjustment but probably wanting a uniform consistent change across all pattern styles, given https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/67264#issuecomment-720711656, but it is still unknown what changes might be desired
  - How we want to handle slice patterns in ranges seems to be an open question still, as witnessed in the discussion of this PR!

I checked but I couldn't actually find an RFC for this, and given "approved provisionally by lang team without an RFC", I believe this might require an RFC before it can land? Unsure of procedure here, on account of this being stabilizing a subset of a feature of syntax.

Handle C-variadic arguments properly when reporting region errors

This pull request fixes #86053. The issue is that for a C-variadic function
```rust
#![feature(c_variadic)]
unsafe extern "C" fn foo(_: (), ...) {}
```
`foo`'s signature will contain only the first parameter (and have `c_variadic` set to `true`), whereas its body has a second argument (a `hir::Pat` for the `...`).

The code for reporting region errors iterates over the body's parameters and tries to fetch the corresponding parameter from the signature; this causes an out-of-bounds ICE for the `...` (though not in the example above, because there are no region errors to report).

I have simply restricted the iteration over the body parameters to exclude `...`, which is fine because `...` cannot cause a region error.

# Stabilization report

 ## Summary

This stabilizes using macro expansion in key-value attributes, like so:

 ```rust
 #[doc = include_str!("my_doc.md")]
 struct S;
 #[path = concat!(env!("OUT_DIR"), "/generated.rs")]
 mod m;
 ```

See the changes to the reference for details on what macros are allowed;
see Petrochenkov's excellent blog post [on internals](https://internals.rust-lang.org/t/macro-expansion-points-in-attributes/11455)
for alternatives that were considered and rejected ("why accept no more
and no less?")

This has been available on nightly since 1.50 with no major issues.

 ## Notes

 ### Accepted syntax

The parser accepts arbitrary Rust expressions in this position, but any expression other than a macro invocation will ultimately lead to an error because it is not expected by the built-in expression forms (e.g., `#[doc]`). Note that decorators and the like may be able to observe other expression forms.

 ### Expansion ordering

Expansion of macro expressions in "inert" attributes occurs after decorators have executed, analogously to macro expressions appearing in the function body or other parts of decorator input.

There is currently no way for decorators to accept macros in key-value position if macro expansion must be performed before the decorator executes (if the macro can simply be copied into the output for later expansion, that can work).

 ## Unresolved Questions

~~https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/83366#issuecomment-805180738 listed some concerns, but they have been resolved as of this final report.~~

 ## Additional Information

 There are two workarounds that have a similar effect for `#[doc]`
attributes on nightly. One is to emulate this behavior by using a limited version of this feature that was stabilized for historical reasons:

```rust
macro_rules! forward_inner_docs {
    ($e:expr => $i:item) => {
        #[doc = $e]
        $i
    };
}
forward_inner_docs!(include_str!("lib.rs") => struct S {});
```

This also works for other attributes (like `#[path = concat!(...)]`).
The other is to use `doc(include)`:

```rust
 #![feature(external_doc)]
 #[doc(include = "lib.rs")]
 struct S {}
```

The first works, but is non-trivial for people to discover, and
difficult to read and maintain. The second is a strange special-case for
a particular use of the macro. This generalizes it to work for any use
case, not just including files.

I plan to remove `doc(include)` when this is stabilized. The
`forward_inner_docs` workaround will still compile without warnings, but
I expect it to be used less once it's no longer necessary.

Do not forbid const parameters in param defaults, allowing `struct Foo<const N: usize, T = [u8; N]>(T)` and `struct Foo<const N: usize, const M: usize = N>`. Note that this should not change anything which is stabilized, as on stable, type parameters must be in front of const parameters, which means that type parameter defaults are only allowed if no const parameters exist.

We still forbid generic parameters inside of const param types.

482a3d06c3 rustc: Add a new wasm ABI
This commit implements the idea of a new ABI for the WebAssembly target,
one called `"wasm"`. This ABI is entirely of my own invention
and has no current precedent, but I think that the addition of this ABI
might help solve a number of issues with the WebAssembly targets.

When `wasm32-unknown-unknown` was first added to Rust I naively
"implemented an abi" for the target. I then went to write `wasm-bindgen`
which accidentally relied on details of this ABI. Turns out the ABI
definition didn't match C, which is causing issues for C/Rust interop.
Currently the compiler has a "wasm32 bindgen compat" ABI which is the
original implementation I added, and it's purely there for, well,
`wasm-bindgen`.

Another issue with the WebAssembly target is that it's not clear to me
when and if the default C ABI will change to account for WebAssembly's
multi-value feature (a feature that allows functions to return multiple
values). Even if this does happen, though, it seems like the C ABI will
be guided based on the performance of WebAssembly code and will likely
not match even what the current wasm-bindgen-compat ABI is today. This
leaves a hole in Rust's expressivity in binding WebAssembly where given
a particular import type, Rust may not be able to import that signature
with an updated C ABI for multi-value.

To fix these issues I had the idea of a new ABI for WebAssembly, one
called `wasm`. The definition of this ABI is "what you write
maps straight to wasm". The goal here is that whatever you write down in
the parameter list or in the return values goes straight into the
function's signature in the WebAssembly file. This special ABI is for
intentionally matching the ABI of an imported function from the
environment or exporting a function with the right signature.

With the addition of a new ABI, this enables rustc to:

* Eventually remove the "wasm-bindgen compat hack". Once this
  ABI is stable wasm-bindgen can switch to using it everywhere.
  Afterwards the wasm32-unknown-unknown target can have its default ABI
  updated to match C.

* Expose the ability to precisely match an ABI signature for a
  WebAssembly function, regardless of what the C ABI that clang chooses
  turns out to be.

* Continue to evolve the definition of the default C ABI to match what
  clang does on all targets, since the purpose of that ABI will be
  explicitly matching C rather than generating particular function
  imports/exports.

Naturally this is implemented as an unstable feature initially, but it
would be nice for this to get stabilized (if it works) in the near-ish
future to remove the wasm32-unknown-unknown incompatibility with the C
ABI. Doing this, however, requires the feature to be on stable because
wasm-bindgen works with stable Rust.

df45c579de rustc_target: add "unwind" payloads to Abi
### Overview

    This commit begins the implementation work for RFC 2945. For more
    information, see the rendered RFC [1] and tracking issue [2].

    A boolean `unwind` payload is added to the `C`, `System`, `Stdcall`,
    and `Thiscall` variants, marking whether unwinding across FFI
    boundaries is acceptable. The cases where each of these variants'
    `unwind` member is true correspond with the `C-unwind`,
    `system-unwind`, `stdcall-unwind`, and `thiscall-unwind` ABI strings
    introduced in RFC 2945 [3].

 ### Feature Gate and Unstable Book

    This commit adds a `c_unwind` feature gate for the new ABI strings.
    Tests for this feature gate are included in `src/test/ui/c-unwind/`,
    which ensure that this feature gate works correctly for each of the
    new ABIs.

    A new language features entry in the unstable book is added as well.

 ### Further Work To Be Done

    This commit does not proceed to implement the new unwinding ABIs,
    and is intentionally scoped specifically to *defining* the ABIs and
    their feature flag.

 ### One Note on Test Churn

    This will lead to some test churn, in re-blessing hash tests, as the
    deleted comment in `src/librustc_target/spec/abi.rs` mentioned,
    because we can no longer guarantee the ordering of the `Abi`
    variants.

    While this is a downside, this decision was made bearing in mind
    that RFC 2945 states the following, in the "Other `unwind` Strings"
    section [3]:

    > More unwind variants of existing ABI strings may be introduced,
    > with the same semantics, without an additional RFC.

    Adding a new variant for each of these cases, rather than specifying
    a payload for a given ABI, would quickly become untenable, and make
    working with the `Abi` enum prone to mistakes.

    This approach encodes the unwinding information *into* a given ABI,
    to account for the future possibility of other `-unwind` ABI
    strings.

 ### Ignore Directives

    `ignore-*` directives are used in two of our `*-unwind` ABI test
    cases.

    Specifically, the `stdcall-unwind` and `thiscall-unwind` test cases
    ignore architectures that do not support `stdcall` and
    `thiscall`, respectively.

    These directives are cribbed from
    `src/test/ui/c-variadic/variadic-ffi-1.rs` for `stdcall`, and
    `src/test/ui/extern/extern-thiscall.rs` for `thiscall`.

    This would otherwise fail on some targets, see:
    fcf697f902

This is a followup to #75810 which added `cmse_nonsecure_entry`. As for that PR, I assume that the changes are small enough to not have to go through a RFC but I don't mind doing one if needed 😃
I did not yet create a tracking issue, but if most of it is fine, I can create one and update the various files accordingly (they refer to the other tracking issue now).

ce9818f2b7 Add a new ABI to support cmse_nonsecure_call
This commit adds a new ABI to be selected via `extern
"C-cmse-nonsecure-call"` on function pointers in order for the compiler to
apply the corresponding cmse_nonsecure_call callsite attribute.
For Armv8-M targets supporting TrustZone-M, this will perform a
non-secure function call by saving, clearing and calling a non-secure
function pointer using the BLXNS instruction.

See the page on the unstable book for details.

4ae328bef4 Auto merge of #78296 - Aaron1011:fix/stmt-tokens, r=petrochenkov
Properly handle attributes on statements

We now collect tokens for the underlying node wrapped by `StmtKind`
nstead of storing tokens directly in `Stmt`.

`LazyTokenStream` now supports capturing a trailing semicolon after it
is initially constructed. This allows us to avoid refactoring statement
parsing to wrap the parsing of the semicolon in `parse_tokens`.

Attributes on item statements
(e.g. `fn foo() { #[bar] struct MyStruct; }`) are now treated as
item attributes, not statement attributes, which is consistent with how
we handle attributes on other kinds of statements. The feature-gating
code is adjusted so that proc-macro attributes are still allowed on item
statements on stable.

Two built-in macros (`#[global_allocator]` and `#[test]`) needed to be
adjusted to support being passed `Annotatable::Stmt`.

Rollup merge of #78836 - fanzier:struct-and-slice-destructuring, r=petrochenkov
Implement destructuring assignment for structs and slices

This is the second step towards implementing destructuring assignment (RFC: rust-lang/rfcs#2909, tracking issue: #71126). This PR is the second part of #71156, which was split up to allow for easier review.

Note that the first PR (#78748) is not merged yet, so it is included as the first commit in this one. I thought this would allow the review to start earlier because I have some time this weekend to respond to reviews. If ``@petrochenkov`` prefers to wait until the first PR is merged, I totally understand, of course.

This PR implements destructuring assignment for (tuple) structs and slices. In order to do this, the following *parser change* was necessary: struct expressions are not required to have a base expression, i.e. `Struct { a: 1, .. }` becomes legal (in order to act like a struct pattern).

Unfortunately, this PR slightly regresses the diagnostics implemented in #77283. However, it is only a missing help message in `src/test/ui/issues/issue-77218.rs`. Other instances of this diagnostic are not affected. Since I don't exactly understand how this help message works and how to fix it yet, I was hoping it's OK to regress this temporarily and fix it in a follow-up PR.

Thanks to ``@varkor`` who helped with the implementation, particularly around the struct rest changes.
