two mentions of the mdDoc function remain in nixos/, both of which
are inside of comments.
Since lib.mdDoc is already defined as just id, this commit is a no-op as
far as Nix (and the built manual) is concerned.
This is a followup to commit bba808dbfa ("nixos/avahi-daemon:
resolve mdns only over enabled protocols, disable ipv6 by default",
2023-10-01, PR #258424). mdns occurs twice in /etc/nsswitch.conf but
that commit changed only the first one (mdns_minimal, before resolve).
This commits ensures that both occurrences are set consistently.
This is not only consistent with upstream example[1] but it also
fixes#118628 -- a longstanding issue with CUPS and printer detection.

> libnss_mdns6.so.2 only IPv6 addresses. Due to the fact that most mDNS responders only register local IPv4

now nix-doc-munge will not introduce whitespace changes when it replaces
manpage references with the MD equivalent.
no change to the manpage, changes to the HTML manual are whitespace only.
the conversion procedure is simple:
- find all things that look like options, ie calls to either `mkOption`
or `lib.mkOption` that take an attrset. remember the attrset as the
option
- for all options, find a `description` attribute who's value is not a
call to `mdDoc` or `lib.mdDoc`
- textually convert the entire value of the attribute to MD with a few
simple regexes (the set from mdize-module.sh)
- if the change produced a change in the manual output, discard
- if the change kept the manual unchanged, add some text to the
description to make sure we've actually found an option. if the
manual changes this time, keep the converted description
this procedure converts 80% of nixos options to markdown. around 2000
options remain to be inspected, but most of those fail the "does not
change the manual output check": currently the MD conversion process
does not faithfully convert docbook tags like <code> and <package>, so
any option using such tags will not be converted at all.
- The order of NSS (host) modules has been brought in line with upstream
recommendations:
- The `myhostname` module is placed before the `resolve` (optional) and `dns`
entries, but after `file` (to allow overriding via `/etc/hosts` /
`networking.extraHosts`, and prevent ISPs with catchall-DNS resolvers from
hijacking `.localhost` domains)
- The `mymachines` module, which provides hostname resolution for local
containers (registered with `systemd-machined`) is placed to the front, to
make sure its mappings are preferred over other resolvers.
- If systemd-networkd is enabled, the `resolve` module is placed before
`files` and `myhostname`, as it provides the same logic internally, with
caching.
- The `mdns(_minimal)` module has been updated to the new priorities.
If you use your own NSS host modules, make sure to update your priorities
according to these rules:
- NSS modules which should be queried before `resolved` DNS resolution should
use mkBefore.
- NSS modules which should be queried after `resolved`, `files` and
`myhostname`, but before `dns` should use the default priority
- NSS modules which should come after `dns` should use mkAfter.
Treat it the same as IPv4 (I'm tempted to disable IPv4 by default);
this is the only option I still need to set manually to enjoy IPv6-only
networks including printer discovery!
Types are now specified for all options.
The fixed uid and gid for the avahi user have been removed
and the user avahi is now in the group avahi.
The the generic opening of the firewall for UDP port 5353 is
now optional, but still defaults to true.
The option `extraServiceFiles` was added to specify avahi
service definitions, which are then placed in `/etc/avahi/services`.
The new units mirror the upstream systemd units as closely as possible.
I could not find a reason why the service would need to be restarted on
resuming from suspend, and the upstream units also do not contain such a
restriction, so I removed the `partOf = [ "post-resume.target"]`.
This fixes#19525.
See #18319 for details. Starting network-online.target manually does not
work as it hangs indefinitely.
Additionally, don't treat avahi and dhcpcd special and sync their systemd units
with the respective upstream suggestion.
Add new option declarations to control what information is published
by the avahi daemon. The default values are chosen to respect the
privacy of the user over the connectivity of the system.
Using pkgs.lib on the spine of module evaluation is problematic
because the pkgs argument depends on the result of module
evaluation. To prevent an infinite recursion, pkgs and some of the
modules are evaluated twice, which is inefficient. Using ‘with lib’
prevents this problem.
