We are patching the xmlcatalog calls in the JH_CHECK_XML_CATALOG
macro to use the XML_CATALOG_FILES environment variable instead
of a single central catalog file. Since consumers (libraries or
applications) are expected to copy the m4 files to their source
tree, we need to patch them separately. The files should be
identical, though, so we can reuse the patch for gtk_doc.
This commit makes the patch available in passthru so the consumer
expressions do not need to maintain the long relative path.
In the previous commit, we added a setup hook to docbook dtd and xsl
packages, that adds derivation’s catalog file to an environment variable.
That should, in theory, remove the need for declaring their catalogs manually.
Unfortunately, xmlcatalog utility expects exactly one catalog file, completely
disregarding the environment variable in non-interactive context. In the same
spirit, the design of gtk-doc m4 files only admits a single catalog file,
resulting in another ugly hack.
* pkgs: refactor needless quoting of homepage meta attribute
A lot of packages are needlessly quoting the homepage meta attribute
(about 1400, 22%), this commit refactors all of those instances.
* pkgs: Fixing some links that were wrongfully unquoted in the previous
commit
* Fixed some instances
- fix in silencing some moveToOutput messages
- allow removing (developer) documentation even without defining outputs
(note: some paths are auto-removed by default, e.g. gtk-doc and man3)
(My OCD kicked in today...)
Remove repeated package names, capitalize first word, remove trailing
periods and move overlong descriptions to longDescription.
I also simplified some descriptions as well, when they were particularly
long or technical, often based on Arch Linux' package descriptions.
I've tried to stay away from generated expressions (and I think I
succeeded).
Some specifics worth mentioning:
* cron, has "Vixie Cron" in its description. The "Vixie" part is not
mentioned anywhere else. I kept it in a parenthesis at the end of the
description.
* ctags description started with "Exuberant Ctags ...", and the
"exuberant" part is not mentioned elsewhere. Kept it in a parenthesis
at the end of description.
* nix has the description "The Nix Deployment System". Since that
doesn't really say much what it is/does (especially after removing
the package name!), I changed that to "Powerful package manager that
makes package management reliable and reproducible" (borrowed from
nixos.org).
* Tons of "GNU Foo, Foo is a [the important bits]" descriptions
is changed to just [the important bits]. If the package name doesn't
contain GNU I don't think it's needed to say it in the description
either.
* There now is full support for building Haskell packages as shared libraries
for GHC versions 7.4.2 or later. The Cabal builder recognizes the following
attributes:
- enableSharedLibraries configures Cabal to build of shared libraries in
addition to static ones. This option requires that all dependencies of
the package have been compiled for use in shared libraries, too.
- enableSharedExecutables configures Cabal to prefer shared libraries when
linking executables.
The default values for these attributes are arguments to the haskellPackages
expression.
* Haskell builds now run in a LANG="en_US.UTF-8" environment to avoid plenty
of build and test suite errors. Without this setting, GHC seems unable to
deal with the UTF-8 character encoding that's generally considered standard
in the Haskell world.
* The Cabal builder supports a new attribute 'testTarget' to specify the exact
set of tests to be run during the check phase.
* The ghc-wrapper attribute ghcVersion has been removed. Instead, we use the
ghc.version attribute, which exists in unwrapped GHC derivations, too.
This merge leads to a big rebuild, but this wouldn't hurt as I'm going to
reintegrate this branch soon.

By now, it happened twice that a commit broke GHC and thus all Haskell packages
we have in Nixpkgs. On such an occasion, I receive well in excess of 3000
notification e-mails from Hydra, and then I receive another 3000 e-mails after
the bug has been fixed. Under these circumstances, subscribing to these
notifications makes no sense for me.

- HDBC-postgresql updated to version 2.3.2.1
- HsOpenSSL updated to version 0.10.1.3
- hledger-web updated to version 0.17.1
- persistent updated to version 0.8.0.2
- xml-conduit updated to version 0.5.3.1
- haddock: added version 2.10.0

Several changes, some highlights:
* Structure of haskell-packages.nix updated. It's now easier to
select different default versions of packages for different
versions of GHC.
* GHC 7.0.2 is now default.
* Haskell Platform 2011.2.0.0 has been added and is now default.
* Several packages have been updated
(gtk2hs, gitit, xmonad, darcs, ...).
* Some old packages have been removed.

Haddock calls directly into ghclib by passing our carefully crafted ghc-wrapper.
This means that haddock needs to be wrapped itself, which this patch does.

(both only work with ghc-6.8.2, not ghc-6.8.3)
* added haddock-0.9 as a version that compiles with
nearly all ghc's we have
* added haddock-0.9-boot the works with ghc-6.4.2-boot
* the haddock-0.9-boot is now used to generate library
documentation while building ghc-6.8.3

URLs to http://nix.cs.uu.nl/dist/tarballs. With content-addressable
mirror support (r9190, NIXPKGS-70) this is no longer necessary:
fetchurl will try to download from that location automatically. So
we can keep the original URLs.
